Online and mail-in voter registration ends today; Oct. 16 is final day to register

Today, Saturday, is the last day to register to vote either online, mail-in, by field deputy or party registrations.
All Nevada residents who plan to register to vote or update their voter profiles online at www.registertovotenv.gov must complete the process before 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Voters can register today, Saturday, by 4:30 p.m. at the Clerk-Recorders office, 885 E. Musser Street, Suite 1025 in Carson City.
Carson City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover said one person had already come in to register on Saturday morning.
There is a second way to register and that is if voters visit the Carson City Clerk-Recorders Office in person with a photo ID and proof of residency. These voters have until Oct. 16.
In-town absentee ballots were mailed on Friday. Absentee ballots for out-of-state residents and members of the military have already been mailed. Absentee ballots should be done before Election Day. Voters should not mail their absentee ballots on Election Day. Voters will need to mail their absentee ballots 3 to 4 working days before the election. Absentee ballots can be delivered to the Carson City Clerk by 7 p.m. on Election Day.
Statewide early voting begins Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. through Friday, Nov. 2.
Sample ballots will be mailed on Monday Oct. 15. All registered voters will get a sample ballot, which should arrive within 1-2 days after they were mailed.
If voters do not get a sample ballot they should immediately contacted the Clerk's Office to inquire why.
"Do not wait until Election Day to find out why you didn't get a sample ballot," said Glover.

Here is a news release from the Nevada Secretary of State's office regarding online voting:

(Carson City, NV; October 5, 2012) – All Nevada residents who plan to register to vote or update their voter profiles online at www.registertovotenv.gov must complete the process before 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, due to mandatory system maintenance with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) between 8 to 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. October 6 is the deadline for online or mail-in voter registration.

“For the last few weeks we have been informing Nevadans that the deadline to register is 11:59 p.m. tomorrow,” said Secretary of State Ross Miller. “We learned today that information is incorrect. Due to system maintenance at DMV, the deadline is 8 p.m. tomorrow. We clearly made a planning mistake, and I accept full responsibility. The bottom line is that Nevadans should register now and not procrastinate. If you wait until just before 8 p.m. on October 6, there’s no certainty you’ll complete the process before the system is taken down for maintenance.”

Online voter registration functions by retrieving the signature that is on file with the DMV to complete the registration application. The system to retrieve the signatures caps the total number of new registrations at 4,000 per day. If the total number of new registrants exceeds that cap, the voter application is placed into pending status awaiting confirmation that a proper signature from DMV is on file. Voters who completed an online application after the 4,000-person daily cap has been reached will be temporarily placed into pending status awaiting final confirmation of their signature on file with the DMV.

Since online registration began in Clark County on August 31, 2010, there have been nearly 60,000 registrations total, of which close to 40,000 are new registrations. Online registration has been available to all 17 Nevada counties since September 2012.

Registration online at www.registertovotenv.gov is fast and simple. Eligible Nevadans only need a Nevada Driver’s License or DMV issue ID, and their Social Security Number. Those who miss the online or mail-in deadline of October 6 can register in person at your county clerk or registrar of voters’ office by October 16.
