Breast cancer survivor makes top 10 cut in Mutual of Omaha commercial search
After a Aha Moment Tour stop in Carson City this spring, Northern Nevada resident Cindy Lain’s aha moment is in the top 10 running to become a national TV commercial for Mutual of Omaha, officials announced Monday.
Lain's aha moment occurred when her battle with breast cancer allowed her to find passion and purpose in a way she had never experienced it before. You can learn more about her journey and view her ‘aha moment’ in the video below.
From the nearly 1,000 moments recorded in 20 markets nationwide, Mutual of Omaha selected 20 semi-finalists. An internal panel of judges have since narrowed the field to 10 finalists with Lain being one of the 10.
Lain, a Reno resident who participated in the Carson City video story search in May, learned about making the top 10 finalist cut on Monday.
"I'm thrilled and thankful I've been allowed to share my story," she said. "Telling my story is a great way to educate people about breast cancer and awareness. I want men and women to be aware of their breasts and chest and what is happening and what is normal and abnormal to them so they can catch it early.
"It is important to me that when I tell my story other survivors see hope and see that they can survive. It is not a death sentence. Many times when you talk to survivors you discover that they found a new meaning to their lives. In a way it taught them to live better lives, more fuller lives," she said.
As a breast cancer survivor, she said she often looked to other people's stories for inspiration and hope to get her through.
One inspirational story will be selected through a combination of Mutual of Omaha's panel and online voting, which begins on Sept. 30 at www.ahamoment.com. The favorite aha moment will be included in Mutual of Omaha's broadcast advertising campaign in Spring 2014.
