Carson City leaders look at appraiser for possible land swap with family trust
A Carson City family trust wishes to trade the historic Pioneer Cemetery and a 19-acre hill site south and west of Ormsby Boulevard and Kings Canyon Road. The Potter Family Trust would receive the equivalent in city land if such a land trade were to happen.
As part of the process, Carson City leaders will decide when they meet Thursday whether to appoint Stephen R. Johnson and Associates as the indendent appraiser for the potential exchange.
The Board of Supervisors will meet at their regular board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 4, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.
In other board action, supervisors will:
— Consider amending a contract to allow for legal work in regards to water policy between $30,000 to $60,000.
According to the staff summary, water rights law is a specialized area of law practice in which the DAs office does not currently have any staff with necessary expertise. Water rights matters arise infrequently, making hourly basis contracting for such legal expertise the most economical approach to meeting the City's needs. Services will be engaged by the District Attorney's Office, to represent the Public Works Department. The City currently has one pending request to enter into water banking trust agreements, which requires legal expert review and drafting.
— Hear a presentation by the new CEO of the Tahoe Prosperity Center. Carson City is a regional stakeholder in Lake Tahoe's economy and the lake's economy is an economic draw to Carson City.
Moné Haen will provide the Carson City Board of Supervisors an update as to the center's activities and strategies to implement the Lake Tahoe Basin Prosperity Plan, a regional roadmap to promote economic development at the lake and communities outside the basin.
