Are You Ready to THiNK PiNK? Breast Cancer Awareness Kick-off Celebration
Carson Tahoe’s twelfth annual Think Pink campaign kicks off on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 to honor Breast Cancer Awareness month. Red’s Old 395 Grill will once again host the event from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Carson City.
The event is free and anyone wearing their Think Pink T-shirt will receive free appetizers. All proceeds from the Think Pink bar and raffle go to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center for cancer education and support.
"Statistics show that one in eight women will develop breast cancer within their lifetime.” said Diane Rush, Carson Tahoe Health’s Marketing Manager. “Early detection is the key to survival. Think Pink encourages women to take control of their health by getting yearly mammograms, doing self-breast exams and scheduling annual clinical exams.”
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women. Recent studies show that although women are aware they should get a mammogram and do regular self-breast exams, the majority of women in the high risk groups do not follow recommended guidelines. Carson Tahoe Health sponsors “Think Pink” to remind women to be pro-active with their breast health.
"Our kick-off event is always a lot of fun. People who have been affected by the disease, whether it happened to themselves or a loved one, come together in love and support.” Rush said. "We urge the whole community to wear their Think Pink T-shirts all day on October 1 and join us at the event at Red’s to show support."
Wear your shirt from a previous “Think Pink” year or pick one up at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Gift Shop, the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, or the Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center for only a $10 donation.
