Pre-sale tickets now available for Polar Express Holiday Train Rides
Pre-sale tickets for the popular 2012 Polar Express™ train aboard the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad are now available. Be sure to purchase your tickets now to this officially licensed event, as last year's 7,500 Polar Express sold out before the inaugural ride.
This all-ages holiday train ride through the frosty Northern Nevada landscape will take place on 15 different dates Nov. 23 through Dec. 23. The Polar Express train rides are based on the holiday feature film from Warner Bros. Pictures and the beloved children’s book, by Chris Van Allsburg, about a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.
Set to the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack, pajama-clad passengers will relive the magic of the story as this 100-year-old train whisks families away for an unforgettable ride to the North Pole. During the journey, the Conductor will punch tickets and chefs will serve hot chocolate, followed by a reading of Van Allsburg’s classic. At the North Pole, Santa will board the train and greet the children.
The diesel engine train features room for 210 passengers in the decorated coach section which is heated by nostalgic wood-burning stoves. All tickets include a keepsake silver bell, hot chocolate, cookies, entertainment, a reading of the story and a visit by Santa!
VIP tickets aboard the 30-seat historic Parlor Car features additional entertainment events, preferred parking at the depot, additional time with Santa Claus, a special holiday treat and souvenir ceramic Polar Express cocoa mug. Passengers who upgrade to the Parlor Car will have more room because the seats face windows instead of straight ahead. This also allows for elaborate decorations and more time for songs, dancing and games during the trip.
The Polar Express departs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., from Nov. 23 to Dec. 23. Times are subject to change. Passengers should arrive 30 minutes before departure; heated tents, photos with Santa Claus and Polar Express holiday merchandise will be available.
Tickets are free for children under two; $25 for those two-12, and $34 for those 13 and older. A VIP Parlor Car is available with limited seats. The cost is $59 for ages 2-12 and $68 for ages 13 and older.
Tickets are available through the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. Seating is limited. Last year's event, with 7,500 tickets available, sold out two weeks before the holiday train tour began. To book tickets in advance call (775) 687-7410 or online.
