Carson City man jailed on felony burglary charge
A Carson City man with a lengthy criminal history including larceny and theft was arrested Monday on a felony burglary charge after allegedly walking out of Walmart without paying for a soda, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Jonathan Cote, 43, also faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to register as an ex-felon. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the Walmart store at 11:15 p.m. in the 3200 block of Market Street. Officers learned through a video that Cote had taken a bottle of Mountain Dew, valued at $1.68 out of a refrigerator and left the store without paying for it.
On Sept. 1, officers did a traffic stop on a vehicle with Cote in it. During the stop he was detained and read his Miranda rights in which he agreed to speak. Officers asked him where he was living, as dispatch had on record that he lived in the 4000 block of Village Drive, the arrest report states. The man gave that address.
The following day, officers went to the address Cote provided and learned the current tenant had been living at the residence for a year and a half. The tenant told the officer that Cote has never lived there while he was there and that he doesn’t know him. Bail: $20,242.
