Carson City man jailed after firing handgun from inside moving car
A Carson City man was arrested Sunday on a felony charge of discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle while on his way to the rifle range, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Oswaldo Mariscal, 29, is being held on $26,137 bail after officers were contacted about a man shooting a handgun from the passenger window of a car. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to the arrest report, officers were called to Fairview and Lepire streets at around 5:38 p.m. The reporting witness said he saw a vehicle going north on Fairview from Pheasant and could identify the two subjects in the car. On of them was shooting the handgun, the witness told officers.
The Nevada Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle at 7:05 p.m. where it was stopped with the assistance from Carson City deputies. The reporting witness arrived and identified the vehicle as the one where he saw the gunshots come from.
Mariscal told officers that he fired two rounds from the passenger seat of the vehicle but not at any specific target or person. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the man and a 16-year-old who was driving were on their way to the rifle range. The man told officers that he just felt like shooting before he got to the range, Furlong said.
Douglas County dispatch was involved in helping Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City officers identify license plates that didn’t match on the vehicle, Furlong said. Several guns were seized during the arrest. The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle was not arrested.
