Carson City leaders to discuss letter to governor on unfunded mandates, shift in services
How to meet unfunded mandates and keep up with the demands the state of Nevada has made as it shifts services to Carson City will be presented as a discussion and possible action item when the Board of Supervisors meet this week.
Carson City leaders will consider drafting a letter to Gov. Brian Sandoval with copies to the city's legislators, about changes made at the state level which have cut services and have required local governments, such as Carson City, to pick up the tab.
Three draft letters to the governor will be brought before the board when it meets Thursday, Sept. 6, 8:30 a.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.
In other matters, Supervisors will:
— Decide to accept a one-year, $53,000 sub-grant from the Nevada Department of Business and Industry Housing Division to provide homeless assistance, homeless prevention and other eligible activities.
— To accept a $28,169 grant to the Carson City Sheriff's Office from the Nevada Department of Public Safety for the purpose of buying mobile data computers and hand-held citation devices that would be used by the Tri-Net Narcotics Task Force, Regional Gang Unit and Specialized Enforcement Team.
— Hear the second reading of the "2012 Highway Revenue Bond Ordinance" that would allow Carson City to refinance Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax bonds at a cost savings. The ordinance would allow for refinancing street and highway construction bonds. The estimated par amount of the 2012
Refunding Bonds is $3,329,200, which will refund $3,140,000 of outstanding debt. The total interest savings is estimated at $228,674, with a present value savings estimated at $197,277.
