Sept. 4 consumer session in Carson City for proposed NV Energy rate hikes
A consumer session is set for Wednesday, Sept. 4, in Carson City to hear public comment regarding NV Energy’s application to the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada that would, if approved, hike Northern Nevada customer monthly service charges and rates by 1.8 percent for electric and 11.08 percent for gas.
NV Energy has filed an application with the commission to adjust general rates charged to all classes of electric and gas customers, according to a news release.
For Northern Nevada electric customers, NV Energy proposes to increase the average monthly residential bill an estimated $1.48, or 1.8 percent. NV Energy proposes to hike the monthly residential electric service charge from $9.25 to $15. The average system impact for all customer classes is an estimated 1.36 percent decrease in rates, according to the news release.
Southwest Gas is Carson City's primary natural gas company serving homes and businesses. For Northern Nevada gas customers outside of Carson City and the service area for Southwest Gas, NV Energy proposes to increase the average monthly residential bill an estimated $3.95, or 11.08 percent. NV Energy proposes to increase the monthly residential gas service charge from $8.50 to $10. The average system impact for all customer classes is an estimated 11.40 percent increase in rates.
Based on the evidence presented in the case, the commission may adopt rates either higher or lower than the rates proposed by NV Energy, according to the news release.
