Investigators seek information on three suspicious fires Sunday in Gardnerville
Douglas County authorities say three fires Sunday in the Gardnerville Ranchos area may have been deliberately set and are asking anyone for information to contact them.
East Fork Fire and Paramedic District were called to a vegetation fire Sunday, 1:39 a.m. in a vacant lot behind 1309 Langley Ave, Gardnerville. The fire ignited a NV Energy power pole and cut power to a 16 unit apartment building, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.
East Fork Fire and Paramedic District firefighters knocked down the fire while NV Energy responded to keep power on at the apartments. As firefighters were dealing with that fire, a second one was reported behind the Frontier Telephone Exchange located south on Tillman Avenue from the Langley street address.
As firefighters responded to the scene, a third fire was reported in a vacant field south along Tillman Avenue. All fires were quickly extinguished.
Damage to the apartment house electrical system, fence and exterior wall is estimated to be about $2,500. Damage to the NV Energy pole and equipment is unknown at this time. The investigation continues.
Neighbors reported seeing young male(s) in the vicinity, prior to discovering the fires. If anyone has any information, please call Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigations at 775-782-9905 or Douglas County Dispatch at 775-782-5126.
