It's Your City with Supervisor Jim Shirk
Carson City Ward 4 Supervisor Jim Shirk provides an update on recent meetings of the Board of Supervisors.
Shirk notes a recent joint meeting with the Carson City School District and discusses the outsourcing of Carson City Animal Services as well as the building department.
He addresses the August 21 meeting in which the city will have to write off around $500,000 in uncollected ambulance bills over the past six months. He notes the city spends about a $1 million a year on unpaid ambulance bills that the city incurs. Shirk said that the matter will be coming up again later with the hopes of addressing some options to keep costs down.
Shirk also talks about his decision to not support the Northern Nevada Development Association's request for $150,000 in funding. Shirk said he asked for a budget with dollar amounts, not percentages.
He spoke of the Moss Adams Efficiency Study underway, which he noted should come up with ways to address overtime being spent on city employees.
Coming up, the Board will again look at Eagle Valley Golf Course, where the operational budget will be reviewed.
