Silver Springs man dies Sunday in two-vehicle crash
A Silver Springs man died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday four miles south of Highway 50 and 95A, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Jay R. Williams, 68, died at the scene of the accident, which involved a Dodge Stratus, driven by Williams, and a Dodge pickup, driven by a 53-year-old Silver Springs man, said NHP Trooper David Gibson.
The accident was reported at 9:47 a.m. Preliminary investigation details the Dodge Stratus driven by Williams was eastbound stopped at the stop sign at Fir Ave and US 95A preparing to travel across US 95A. The Dodge pickup was traveling southbound on US 95A approaching Fir Ave when the Dodge sedan pulled into the path of the Dodge pickup, said Gibson.
The Dodge pickup tried to avoid the collision but struck the Dodge sedan left side with its front. The Dodge sedan was pushed off the roadway and came to rest on the southeast corner of the intersection of US 95A and Fir Ave.
The Dodge pickup also went off the roadway and came to rest on the southeast corner of US 95A and Fir Ave. Williams died from injuries he received from the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Dodge pickup was treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries and was released. US 95A was diverted for about 3 hours while the crews investigated the accident scene.
The M.A.I.T investigator handling the accident investigation is trying to identify a vehicle and its occupants who may have witnessed the accident. A witness says that an unknown white pickup truck towing a black lowboy goose neck trailer that was hauling an early 80’s yellow Chevrolet pickup was parked on the Northwest lot of the intersection of US 95A and Fir Ave. may have witnessed the accident.
