Carson City planners to review proposed sign plans at Carson Mall
A plan to put up some new signs to spruce up a revitalized and remodeled Carson Mall is on the Carson City Planning Commission agenda on Wednesday.
The Carrington Company, which owns the mall, is asking the city to allow for more signs on the front and back ends of the mall, at the 1313 South Carson Street and the 1457 South Carson Street entrances.
Built in 1966, the 167,000 square foot Carson Mall is the capital city's only enclosed shopping center, having gone through a major renovation in 2008. Since then it has drawn several new businesses to open within it, and has brought a new kind of community/village environment to that part of downtown. Offering live outdoor music venues, patio dining, and indoor and outdoor fairs, the transformation of the Carson Mall has been seen as a breath of fresh air by many in a downturned Carson City economy.
The signs will be in scale with the existing shopping center on site and are comparable to signs in the general vicinity. Surrounding property owners were notified of the request and no objections have been registered. The signs fit the city's master plan, and would have provided for economic vitality to the area. City planning and public works staff have recommended approval.
The Carson City Planning Commission meeting will be held on Wednesday, 5 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William.
