Weather Service: Thunderstorms developing across the region
The National Weather Service says a number of isolated showers and thunderstorms are developing through much of Western Nevada and the Eastern Sierra, including Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City.
The storms were moving to the east-northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Due to the slow movement of the storm cells, localized moderate to heavy rain is possible through this afternoon with any bouts of heavy rain being brief.
However, with the day warming up the storms are likely to become more widespread and stronger by late afternoon, according to the weather service. After 3 p.m. the storms may become strong enough to produce heavy and longer periods of rain that could result in flooding along areas that have received storms over the past few days.
Gusty outflow winds of up to 45 mph could also occur later this afternoon and early evening.
