Donations sought, families invited to Saturday back to school clothing drive
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its sixth annual clothing drive to help families in Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities get ready for school.
The event is open to the public on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City.
David Haws, President of the church’s local organization, says families are invited to pick up needed clothing in preparation for the new school year.
“This is our sixth annual clothing drive to help families obtain clothing and reduce the stress parents face in getting their children ready for the new school year,” said Haws.
Event organizers are also asking for clothing donations from the community. Drop off new or clean and gently used clothing on Friday, August 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City.
Kelli Asp, President of the church’s local women’s organization, said she schedules the annual event in August to help families get ready for the new school year. “We invite the whole family to pick up clothing ranging from infant to adult,” said Asp. She emphasized that all items are provided free of charge.
Providing service to others is central to the Mormon belief of following the example of Jesus Christ. This is a non-denominational event open to the public.
