Committee vote sets Northern Nevada lands bills on path to final House passage
The bipartisan support clears the way for the legislation to be brought to the House floor in September as a non-controversial suspension bill, according to a news release from Amodei's office.
The compromise agreement was made possible after adjustments to the legislation were made to a version passed in January.
“These are community-driven lands measures that will create jobs without cost to the federal taxpayer,” said Amodei. “For the second time in two years, the eyes of Northern Nevada turn to the Senate.”
“Working to create jobs and strengthen the middle class has been my number one priority in Congress,” said Horsford. “Today, Democrats and Republicans unanimously moved a legislative package forward that will grow Nevada’s economy. Thanks to Congressman Mark Amodei and others, we have been able to find common sense bipartisan solutions that bridge the partisan divide. When we work together and put Nevada first, political posturing fades into the background, and our constituents benefit.”
The Northern Nevada Land Conservation and Economic Development Act includes the following measures:
— H.R. 433, the Pine Forest Range Recreation Enhancement Act — H.R. 696, the Lyon County Economic Development and Conservation Act — H.R. 1167, the Restoring Storey County Act — H.R. 1168, the Carlin Economic Self-Determination Act — H.R. 1169, the Naval Air Station Fallon Housing and Safety Development Act — H.R. 1170, the Fernley Economic Self-Determination Act — H.R. 2455, the Elko Motocross and Tribal Conveyance Act
"Lyon County is grateful for the hard work of Congressman Mark Amodei and Congressman Steve Horsford to move this bill forward in the House," said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page. "The entire Nevada Congressional Delegation supported this bill and worked towards moving it forward. Lyon County is optimistic that the bill will be sent to the President for signature before the end of the 113th Congress."
Page explained that this has been a long process but the efforts of Congressman Horsford in sponsoring and developing support for the the bill and Congressman Amodei’s work to achieve a bipartisan solution, and his prior efforts to pass a similar bill several years ago, brought our bill one step closer to reality. Lyon County will continue, with the City of Yerington and Nevada Copper, to work with the Nevada Delegation to advance the bill, said Page.
