Don Q's Nevada and Northern California fishing report for July 9-15

Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, northern California and the Sierra. This report is for the week of July 9-15, 2014.

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:
Rick and Patti Apted - Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425) (www.lakesabrinaboatlanding.com) reports:
Lake Sabrina:
What a weekend – folks all over enjoying the Lake, keeping cool and making memories – even had a few sprinkles. Hope if you made it up – you had a great time. And the Eagle was spotted at the back of the Lake – must have known it was the 4th of July.
Just like last week, catching is off the charts this week – we did have a bit of a lull in the catching during the week, but it picked back up just in time for the weekend. All the Inlets were on fire (you don’t just need to head right for the DingleBerry Inlet – expand your fishing horizons and fish other areas) – Nightcrawlers, Power Bait, Jigs and Lures were all producing limits.
Fishing the rock piles did just as well.
Drifting Nightcrawlers thru the channels or using the same baits, Jigs and Lures while fishing from shore.
Trolling Lures or Nightcrawlers caught many a’fish.
Thanks again to DFG for the fish on Wednesday.
The Comins Family had a great 3-day weekend – fish after fish – Marla once again bested hubby & son with a 1-3/4 pounder – the boys just couldn’t keep up with Mom, snoozing on the couch after lunch before heading back out.
Grandpa Patrick Terek had a wonderful time schooling his grandchildren Mariah & Marcus in the fine art of fishing with Thomas Buoyants.
Michael Katzman brought 5 teenagers up to the Lake for a bit of fishing and lots of fun memories – bless him.
We’ve got lots of wildflowers blooming these days – beautiful wild pink roses that smell so very wonderful and red wild penstemons along with purple and pink penstemons. Then there is an abundant of different yellow flowers – not sure what the names of them all are dotting the landscape.
Speaking of flowers, Bryan and Rick planted the flower containers on the deck – they look so pretty!
Rick took down the plywood at the front door where Yogi came in last year while making the comment that as soon as he took it down the bear would return – it did, but we’re call this one Boo-Boo – think it’s a youngster – just took the gut can bag away and got into the recyclables – came back again on Sunday night – hasn’t come thru the window – yet.
And the monsoonal weather has hit Lake Sabrina – had a few sprinkles over the weekend and are expecting rain showers through the week – not sure about next weekend – don’t forget your ponchos. Temps are expected to be in the upper 70s with the lows in the high 40s.

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:
Jared Smith - Parchers Resort (760-873-4177) (sierrasmitty@cebridge.net):
The summer season is in full swing with all trails and passes now open and very little snow left to slow hikers down.
Temps soared into the low 80's at the 9,000ft level, which is hot for us.
Still, evening lows in the mid 40's provided the daily cool-down we all enjoy and made for perfect evening campfire weather.
The wildflowers continue to pop up everywhere along the creek with at least 10 types of flowers around.
The tiger lilies are the latest to start showing up in numbers.
The influx of folks for the holiday weekend made for slightly cramped conditions at some of the more popular fisheries like North Lake and Intake II but those bouncing the stream or venturing into the backcountry found lighter crowds and wonderful conditions.
Wild Trout anglers have reported good to great fishing on flies, spinners, spoons and plastics with light to moderate fishing pressure.
Water conditions are great in most areas, especially given the drought.
Flows on the middle fork of Bishop Creek are low as they store what water they can at Lake Sabrina.
Flows on the So. Fork are a bit on the high side but still very fishable in most areas.
North Lake & Intake II are at their usual summer levels.
Bishop Creek South Fork
Considering the heavy holiday weekend crowds and the free fishing day on Saturday, fishing was reported to be good to very good for most folks.
The hot bait was pieces of nightcrawler, Pautzke's Green Label eggs or Berkley Mice Tails in the pink/white color.
Fly fishers found excellent action on a mix of Rainbows, Browns and Brookies on bead-head nymphs and driers like mosquitoes, adams and caddis patterns.
Weir Pond
Mornings were excellent on the Weir but with a lot of fishing pressure, the bite usually slowed down by the afternoon. Streamers, dries and nymphs were all producing fish including some solid Rainbows to 16".
Willow Pond (Beaver pond across from Willow Campground)
Not much pressure but those who did fish here reported steady action on flies, salmon eggs, and nightcrawlers.
North Lake
The area was supposedly crawling with people and dogs but most folks said they were catching some fish here and there, mostly on bait.
Intake II
A steady bite at Intake II this week for those able to get a free spot on shore. The best bait was reported to be nightcrawlers fished off the bottom. Various Berkley dough baits also scored fish for canyon visitors.
Lake Sabrina
Fishing was reported to be a bit on the slow side for those fishing from shore with the best reports coming from boaters fishing the inlets or far south bank from a boat.
South Lake
No reports from South Lake this week.

BOCA RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Mountain Hardware and Sports of Truckee (530-587-4844) (mountainhardwareandsports@gmail.com) reports:
Lake level has leveled off now at 38% capacity and now may come up a bit with more water coming into the lake than is going out.  A confirmed stocking of DFW trout this week should pump some more life into this lake.  Small car top boats, small aluminum boats or float tubes here, water level is too low to launch anything else.  Fishing by the dam in the morning has been good along with the inlet portion of the lake more towards the evening.  Lots of PWC(Personal Water Craft) or Jet skis ripping around the lake during the day so look for morning and evening fishing to be more productive.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707)
www.kenssport.com) reports:
Bridgeport is still hanging in there too, even with the low water. There's some perch and trout being caught trolling, and quite a few trout being caught still fishing and fly fishing.
Trollers are using small Rapalas and needlefish, bait anglers are using mice tails, power bait and crawlers. Fly anglers are midging with rojo midges, zebra midges, callibaetis nymphs, damsel nymphs and soft hackles.

BRIDEGPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Tom Loe of the Sierra Drifters Guide Service (760-935-4250) (www.sierradrifters.com) reports:
Bridgeport Reservoir has really been impacted by the current drought, and is extremely low with poor water quality. The blue ribbon trout fishery of the East Walker River runs out of this reservoir and has been negatively impacted by the water issues on the lake.
This condition will worsen before it improves in both locations.
I suggest you hit the Bridge soon, it may be a rough late summer & fall here.
Fly fishing has been slow at best in both locations.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF:
John Voss of the Caples Lake Resort (209-258-8888) (www.capleslakeresort,com) reports:
Lian Wong From Oakland, was fishing on the dam using a black fly and a bobber when she caught a nice 3 pound 26 inch Rainbow.
This was Lian’s First fish she has ever caught.
Caples Lake Resort guests Cori Nunez and Kim Porter hooked a couple nice fish this weekend. Cori caught this nice 2 lb 16 ½ inch trophy by Woods Creek. Kim hooked her 3 lb Rainbow in Emigrant Bay, using worms.
Dennis Garcia and Andy Azevedo from Turlock, caught nice Rainbows by the dam using Green Power bait.
Summer Lodging is available! Call or email us!
209-258-8888 for Reservations@capleslakeresort.com.

CARSON RIVER, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Current flow is 109 CFS near Gardnerville. Fishing should be good while current flows persist but will soon be too low.

CONVICT LAKE AND CONVICT CREEK, CALIF:
Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) (www.convictlake.com) reports:
Notable catches this week:
Debra and Julie Denten from Davis, CA with a nice rainbow caught at the Jetty. They were using rainbow Power bait when they hooked a 5 pound 4 ounce rainbow.
Emma Graff from Castaic, CA caught a 3 pound 14 ounce rainbow. Emma was using rainbow Power bait and was fishing at the Jetty.
Brent Lennox from San Gabriel, CA landed a 3 pound and 10 ounce rainbow. He was using a orange lip Ripper worm and fishing at the Inlet.
Robert Kraszewski from Fullerton, CA hooked a 3 pound 4 ounce rainbow. Robert was using a unknown fly pattern and was fishing the South Shore.
Alan and Janet Swanson from Irvine, CA each with a great catch. One rainbow was 4 pound 8 ounce and the second was 5 pound 3 ounce. Both lunkers were caught between the South Shore and marina while trolling. They were trolling at 4 colors and using a Needlefish Dr. Death lure.
Tactics/Bait:
The fishing remained good out on Convict Lake and the creek this week. Roostertails, Kastmasters and orange/pink Power bait worms were the hot tickets. Also try throwing Sierra Slammers or Lip Ripperz.
Bite-on Garlic Attractant or Pro-Cure Trophy Trout Super Gel will change an ordinary lure into a fish magnet.
In the creek salmon eggs and small spinners like a Roostertails continue to produce stringers. The most successful Power bait color was rainbow. Chunky Cheese Garlic is always a deathly choice.
The South Shore, Jetty and Inlet were the hottest spots this week. Other locations fishing well were Hangman's Tree and North Shore.
Here is a list of other baits/lures that can be productive:
Sierra Slammers, Tasmanian Devil, Green or brown Marvel Fly Lures, Trout Teasers, Panther Martin, Needlefish, Roostertails, and Bite-on Fury Shad or Lip Ripperz Hatchery Dust on Power bait.
Here is a list of recommended flies:
Dry Flies:
Adams, Female Adams, Cutter's Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulators, Black/Red Ants, Sierra Bright Dot, Royal Coachman and Hoppers.
Streamers:
Wooly Bugger (black, brown, olive, or green), Mutuka (black, brown, olive, or green), Hornberg, and Muddler Minnows.

Sunrise - Sunset:
Sunrise this week 5:40 am - 5:44 am and Sunset 8:19 pm - 8:16 pm.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
The algae bloom is  underway and finding clean water can be difficult.
Over all the  bulk of the fish are still deep in 18-22 feet of water.
Stevie's Wonder black/silver or black/red zebra midge.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF:
Tom Loe of the Sierra Drifters Guide Service (760-935-4250) (www.sierradrifters.com) reports:
Crowley Lake has been the most consistent & surprisingly good fishery this summer for our region.
Fly fishers are experiencing one of the best seasons we have seen for browns, with significant numbers of trophy sized rainbows being caught nearly every guide trip.
The algae bloom is currently an issue; however you can move to McGee Bay after the west wind blows for a spell to locate cleaner water, stage up in Hilton if the south winds persist during your stay.
Still water nymphing (midge'n) tactics are best; but you tubers that can get along the weed lines should have a sinking line rigged with damsel fly nymph imitations.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF:
Jim and Jeannie of the J &J's Grizzly Store and Camping Resort (530-832-0270) (www.grizzlystore.portola-ca.com) report: From the Portola Newspaper:
Lake Davis is fishing well right now and likely to get even better over the next few weeks.
The damsel fly hatch is in full swing. The best fishing is mid-morning when the rainbows are actively feeding on damsel nymphs.
Midges nymphs fished under an indicator are a good bet early in the morning if you don’t see a lot of surface feeding fish.
Wolly buggers are a good bet when the wind is up during the middle of the day. I have not heard reports of Hexagenia yet, but I would sure like to spend an evening on Davis right now and give that a try. It remains to be seen just how well established the Hexagenia are in Davis just yet, but there is every reason to expect excellent action at some point in the near future. That could be next year or two, or it could be tomorrow night.
Davis is a shallow lake so leave the full sink line at home and fish nymphs on a floating line with a moderate to long leader adjusted to achieve the depth I want, usually in the top three feet of water.
Trollers are picking up some nice rainbows on Wee Dick Nite Copper Red Heads and Yellow watermelon Needlefish.

DONNER LAKE, CALIF:
Mountain Hardware and Sports of Truckee (530-587-4844) (mountainhardwareandsports@gmail.com) reports:
This lake was stocked heavily weeks ago but still continues to fish well!
With temps reaching into the high 80's this week it's a great time to get in the morning and evenings to fish though this lake will still put fish out during the day.
Mack fishing here has been fair and Jigging for these guys  have been good at depths from 70-100ft and some smaller guys being caught along the shoreline. Kokanee fishing has been good with fat little guys ranging from 10-12 inches in 45-80 feet with most of the schools being between Loch Leven Lodge and China Cove and some larger Kokes in the 13-14 inch range on the opposite shore from the boat launch suspended 60-80 feet in 100-120 feet of water.
With the recent stocking some small Macks have been busy cruising the shorelines in the morning and evening picking of small rainbows.  Throw imitations that will mimic these and smaller baitfish now in these dusk and dawn hours to be successful!

EAGLE LAKE, CALIF:
Tom Loe of the Sierra Drifters Guide Service (760-935-4250) (www.sierradrifters.com) reports:
Hope the summer is starting out well for you & you have made plans to visit us here in the Sierra before the snow flies (we hope a bunch this winter!).
A typical July it is not. Without trying to sound redundant, or negative-the drought has really begun to influence many fisheries here in the Eastern Sierra & California in general.
I recently returned from my  Eagle Lake “guide-a-thon”-Eagle is in the top three largest natural bodies of water in the state & it is at drastically low levels with many of its facilities not operational due to low water levels. Fishing was good overall, but another dry year and we will see serious issues here for sure.

HEENAN LAKE, CALIF:
Closed until the Friday before Labor Day, 2014.

HOT CREEK, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Water flow  down to 7 CFS. Try an attractor dry  like a stimulator  with a nymph as a dropper WD-40, green rock worms or scuds.  Heavy weed growth makes accurate casting a must.

HOT CREEK, CALIF:
Tom Loe of the Sierra Drifters Guide Service (760-935-4250) (www.sierradrifters.com) reports:
Hot Creek has been good in the deepest pools and slots. Flows are very low here for this time of year & there is limited water to fish with weeds once again becoming an issue in many of the best riffles & runs.

JACKSON MEADOWS, CALIF:
Mountain Hardware and Sports of Truckee (530-587-4844) (mountainhardwareandsports@gmail.com) reports:
With this lake being stocked two weeks in a row with a healthy planting of DFW trout this lake will fish great for months now!  If you're looking for bigger fish here you're going to have to fish the face of the dam more as there is always some big fish hanging on the ledges of the dam. Lake is at 89% capacity and it's a great escape from the masses that descend on Tahoe.

JIGGS / ZUNINO RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Unfortunately, Jiggs has dried up.

JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Rush Creek flow is down to 16 CFS.  Fishing is  a bit  tougher. Try a humpie or stimulator with  a hares ear or pheasant tail dropper.

KIRMAN LAKE, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
July 07, 2014
Haven't heard much from Kirman this week, I'd expect it to be pretty tough with the algae bloom that happened up there last week.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The boat ramp is closed and the reservoir is quickly receding.

MAMMOTH LAKES BASIN, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Windy conditions hampered fishing last week.
Upper Twin best for fly rodders with Doc's Twin Lake Special black or olive or try hanging a callibaetis nymph under an indicator.

MARLETTE LAKE, CARSON CITY & WASHOE COUNTIES, NEV:
Closed until July 15, 2014.

OWENS RIVER, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Upper Owens River:
Flow is steady at 53 CFS. Most of the spawning fish have returned to the lake but a few still remain.
Try caddis pupa, San Juan worms and egg patterns.
Lower Owens River:
Water flow remains 224 CFS. Fishing is good  and crowds are low.
Not much surface action  but nymph fishing is great.
WD40's , rainbow warriors, baetis emergers. Day time temps 100+.

OWENS RIVER, CALIF:
Tom Loe of the Sierra Drifters Guide Service (760-935-4250) (www.sierradrifters.com) reports:
Middle Owens:
The Middle Owens River near Bishop also has unseasonable conditions, with release rates out of Pleasant Valley Reservoir more like fall than early summer. Drift boat trips are a good option currently; however I would suggest half day trips to avoid the hot afternoon sun the Owens Valley can kick out in summertime. Wet wade fishing the wild trout section can be productive during cooler periods of the day.
Upper Owens:
The Upper Owens is yet another victim of this drought.  Grant Lake which feeds the UO through a diversion on Rush Creek has been drawn down to almost nothing, & consequently the UO is experiencing much lower than normal flows. Weeds and short water in the riffles have decreased the prime water to fish here as well.

PAHRANAGAT WILDLIFE REFUGE, LINCOLN COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Anglers are finding some success at the upper marsh for panfish and catfish.
Mealworms or nightcrawlers below a bobber will catch fish.

PINE FOREST COMPLEX, HUMBOLDT COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Roads: Access to the Pine Forest best with a 4-wheel drive.
Onion Valley Reservoir: Onion started with only a half pool of water because of the drought. Irrigation demands are quickly draining the lake and fishing should be done by the first week in August.

PROSSER RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Mountain Hardware and Sports of Truckee (530-587-4844) (mountainhardwareandsports@gmail.com) reports:
Lake is at 38 percent capacity and has been fishing well! Fishing outside the inlets and around the dam has produced the best results. Smallmouth fishing here has been great in the evening hours!

PYRAMID LAKE, WASHOE COUNTY, NEV:
Closed to fishing for Lahontan Cutthroat Trout until Oct. 01.

RYE PATCH RESERVOIR, PERSHING COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The boat launches are closed due to low water levels.
Shore launching is risky and is done at your own risk.

Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Flow is now 39 CFS. Heavy fishing pressure over the 4th of July weekend could  hamper fishing for the next few days. Try an attractor like a stimulator or a coachman with a para Adams as a dropper.
All the camp grounds are now open and crowds have increased.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF:
Kirk and Lisa Portocarrero at outdooradventures@sacriverguide.com and www.sacriverguide.com (1-800-670-4448) report:
July 7, 2014  Shasta Lake guided fishing
Northern California fishing Lake Shasta.
We offer daily guided fishing on Lake Shasta. RED HOT FISHING !!!!
Shasta Lake King salmon fishing is excellent. 5 -12 salmon being caught a day, between 3 -5 pound range.
Catching BIG salmon 100-120 ft deep, trolling, shad pattern lures.
Areas fishing, Mouth of Sac Arm & McCloud Arm.
Rainbow trout and Brown trout fishing on Lake Shasta is great. Fishing 30 to 75 ft deep. Trout are very large now, due to the large bait fish in the area.  Fishing best around the Pit Arm and Jones Valley area.
Shasta Lake Spotted Bass & Small Mouth Bass fishing has been excellent. Limits daily. Catching 20 to 50 fish per day, bigger fish are being caught 25 -30 ft deep. Larger numbers of smaller bass being caught on the top water using spinner baits and tube worms.

SPOONER LAKE, DOUGLAS COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The weed bed continues to be a problem around Spooner Lake. If anglers do find an opening they should have some success.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Mountain Hardware and Sports of Truckee (530-587-4844) (mountainhardwareandsports@gmail.com) reports:
Kokanee fishing here has been great, but with water levels at 28% capacity (that's correct) it's a must to have 4-wheel drive to launch and even that's risky!  Many are utilizing the area east of the ramp to launch their boats.
Rick Kennedy and John Minnis still reporting good Kokanee action with fish ranging in the 12-13 inch range in the top 25-40 feet of water but some larger fish are being taken around the island in 45-55 feet of water. Another hot spot has been off the boat launch when water depth reaches 35-45 feet.
Spinners, Hoochies, and Radical Glow Tubes have been go to lures in colors with pink, orange, and Purple.
Best Dodger colors have been copper with any Orange and Pink in it!
Look for Macks underneath these schools of Kokes and some larger ones still hanging out in the deeper sections of the lake around the dam.
Trout fishing has been best in the coves up and down from the campgrounds and boat ramp.
Smallmouth fishing has been sporadic in the Davis Creek arm but some of those that are being caught have been pretty nice!

LAKE TAHOE:
A report of limits of average sized Mackinaw Trout being caught on silver flasher blades and minnows, trolled at depths of 100-300 feet on the west side of the lake near Homewood, California.

TOPAZ LAKE, NEV/CALIF:
The boat ramps are closed.

July 7, 2014 Fishing report
Currently, Trinity River flows are as follows;  450 CFS.
Salmon fishing has started. Catching a couple Kings here and there. Very slow at the moment. Salmon have just started making their way up.
Water is extremely low.
Fishing from Lewiston to Junction City.
Trinity River fishing is conveniently located 40 minutes West of Redding, CA  fishing from the town of Weaverville, California.

TRUCKEE RIVER, BIG, CALIF AND NEV:
Mountain Hardware and Sports of Truckee (530-587-4844) (mountainhardwareandsports@gmail.com) reports:
California:
Another warm week ahead with temps in the high 80's to low 90's!
Even though water levels are dropping the fishing has been pretty good with some good dry fly fishing if you know time and place.
Most fish will be taken by highsticking the pocket water and one should think about giving the fish a break in the early afternoon and on since water temps climb almost to 70.  Don't despair, you can get out for the evening to get your fix if you missed the early session for some very good caddis, little yellow sallies, and PED action.
Let's be ethical here and give the fish a break during the heat of the day to cut back on the mortality rate of trout when there stressed by these high water temps.
Lots of things on the menu now such as Caddis, Stones, Mayflies(PMD's, PED's), Midges, and Terrestrials(Ants, Hoppers).  If your fishing dries consider using 4x-5x leaders now and when nymphing 3x-5x tippet.
Nevada:
Caution!  If you do fish the Truckee in Nevada please be aware that New Zealand Mudsnails have been found in sections of water there so please clean your shoes and gear accordingly to avoid aquatic hitch hikers!
Study the water and turn rocks and see what is going on, also seine for what is in the drift.  Little things like this and slowing your approach to the river’s edge will greatly increase your chances of being successful.
Again, make sure your box is stocked with every conceivable stage of bugs that are present now!  (x) = drawer number.

TRUCKEE RIVER, LITTLE, CALIF:
Mountain Hardware and Sports of Truckee (530-587-4844) (mountainhardwareandsports@gmail.com) reports:
Stocked about a months ago but with low water now being an issue fishing has been fair at best through this stretch.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:
Judy Allen at Annett's Mono Village (760- 932-7071) (www.monovillage.com) reports:
The biggest catch in our July 4th Fishing Derby is a 4-pound, 1-ounce rainbow, but the derby continues through Sunday, July 6th.  Winner will be announced next week.
Most anglers in boats brought in full stringers, their choice of bait this week has been Rainbow Garlic and Garlic Power Bait.
The top lure is the Thomas Bouyant  Gold/Red, 1/4 ounce.
We enjoyed beautiful weather over this holiday week-end.
The campground was almost maxed out and everyone was fishing on the July 5th free fishing day.
Water temperature has reached 58 degrees and water level remains good.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
July 07, 2014
The Twins have been fishing great with this overcast weather, this week produced another huge 17 pound brown from the Lower Lake, as well as lots of rainbows in the 2 to 5 pound range.
Trolling with Rapalas, thomas bouyants and needlefish has been good for the trollers, fly anglers are using matukas, seal buggers, wooly buggers and soft hackles. Lures and bait to use include thomas bouyants, kastmasters, jakes spin a lure, mice tails, pinched crawlers and night crawlers.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:

The Virginias are still fishing very well, lots of nice fish in the 1 to 4 pound range being caught up there. Panther martins, roostertails, power eggs, mice tails and salmon eggs have all been doing well. Fly anglers are using zug bugs, prince nymphs, hare's ears, humpies, damsel nymphs, para adams, para hoppers and madam-x.

WALKER LAKE, MINERAL COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
No new updates. No Lahontan cutthroat have been reported or seen at Walker Lakes since 2009.
Launching is not possible right now.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) (www.kenssport.com) reports:
East Walker River:
July 07, 2014
The East is running at about 92 CFS right now, it's a little tough fishing down there but there are still fish to be caught.
The weather has cooled a bit and we're getting lots of cloud cover so that should help things out down there.
Dry/dropper rigs seem to have been the best lately and you still should be fishing down below the bridge as opposed to the "Miracle Mile" stretch.
The Nevada side of the river is also still fishing well.
Patterns to try include: para hopper, madam-x, chubby chernobyl, stimulator, humpy, flashback emerger, zebra midge, buckskin caddis, rainbow warrior, silver streak, san juan worm, mercury midge, z-wing caddis, fox's poopah and deep sparkle pupa.
Sceirine Ranch:
