Carson City sheriff's deputies make felony drug arrests involving heroin, meth and pills

A Dayton man was arrested Monday on felony drug charges after paramedics were called to the 1000 block of South Carson Street after the man was initially found slumped over the steering wheel of a running car, clenching money, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Matthew Paul Gonzi, 40, was arrested at 11:07 a.m. on suspicion of possession of controlled substances with intent to sell and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies, and four lessor charges including two failure to appear warrants issued out of Douglas County.

Arriving fire and ambulance crews evaluated the man, who told them he was fine and didn't need medical attention. He was then placed into custody and read his Miranda rights where he agreed to speak with the arresting deputy.

He allowed the officer to search his shirt pocket where the officer found a glass tube that contained a white powdery residue and a burnt bulb end. Also found was a small plastic container with what is presumed to be methamphetamine and a clear plastic baggy with presumed marijuana, the arrest report states.

During the inventory of the vehicle, deputies found more than 30 small clear plastic baggies and a digital scale in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The man told the officer he uses about a gram of meth a day. Officers would later weigh the presumed meth found and it was about 1.5 grams, the arrest report states.

Based on the amount of drugs, the digital scale and small plastic baggies, the deputy recognized the items to be commonly used to sell narcotics. He faces two felony charges and four misdemeanor charges. Bail: $13,374.

In other arrests:
— Two were arrested Monday and face numerous felony charges after deputies found drugs during a traffic stop, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said. Brian Glen Hofius-Ward, 28, and Brittany Amanda Clack, 19, were arrested 2:42 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road.

Officers made a traffic stop on Hofius-Ward for a warrant out of Carson City Justice Court. Based on a previous contact, officers were aware the man did not have a valid driver's license.

During the pat search of Hofius-Ward, officers found a small white plastic wrapper with a sticky substance, presumed to be heroin, inside a right pant pocket. Also found were two small plastic baggies with a white powdery residue in the same pocket.

The woman identified herself to officers and consented to a search of her purse and wallet where officers found a small clear plastic baggie that contained a cotton swab with brown residue. Inside her purse officers found three Suboxone pills.

Prior to placing the woman into custody she stated she had a meth pipe and tooter pipe inside her bra. The meth pipe was a white glass tube that contained white powdery residue and a burnt bulb end. The plastic tube (tooter) had a burnt end and is commonly used to inhale narcotics off of tin foil.

During the vehicle inventory, officer found a tan box with miscellaneous drug paraphernalia under the driver's seat. Also found was a black box with more drug paraphernalia as well as several syringes and small balloons, commonly used to hold heroin.

Also inventoried was a back pack with a digital scale with white powder residue, suspected to me methamphetamine and one vial with approximately 5 ml of Diazepam.

Hofius-Ward faces the following felony charges: possession of a controlled substance, possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription, and possession of a credit card without the card holders consent. He faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to appear in court warrant, and driving without a valid driver's license. Bail: $9,329.

Clack faces two felony charges, possession of a controlled substance and possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $6,137.

— A 28-year-old Mound House woman, Deborah Ellen Duffy, was booked Monday into Carson City Jail on felony warrant charges of failure to appear in court and violation of probation. The warrants were issued June 16, 2014.

— A 20-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday, 2:40 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Nevada Street on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Officers were called to the home and met with the victim who said his girlfriend of three months had hit him in the face several times. Officers found the woman inside the couple's garage where she was hitting a wall with a sledge hammer and had broken several items around the home, the arrest report states.

She told deputies that she had been breaking items in the home because she thought her boyfriend was cheating. She said her boyfriend tried to stop her and as he was holding her down, she hit him in the face several times, according to the arrest report.

The victim did not have any visible injuries, while the suspect had scrapped knuckles from punching a brick wall, the arrest arrest report states. The woman submitted to a preliminary breath test that resulted in a .153 and was taken to jail. Bail: $3,137.

— A 47-year-old transient was arrested Monday, 11:59 p.m. on a gross misdemeanor charge of destruction of property and misdemeanor domestic battery.
According to the arrest report Carson City deputies were called to a domestic dispute in the 200 block of Jeanell Drive.

The woman, upset with her ex-boyfriend, went to his home, pounded on the door and window, and then threw him against a wall, the arrest report states. When he closed the door on her, she allegedly "head-butted a window" and broke it.

The ex-boyfriend said he wanted to press charges and wanted the woman to go to jail or else she would keep coming back to the apartment, he said. Three witnesses on the scene said they saw the woman push the man into the wall. Bail: $5,637.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 11:05 p.m. on four misdemeanor charges, including DUI, driving without a valid driver's license, no current proof of insurance and not using a turn signal when turning. Bail: $2,138.

— A 41-year-old Reno woman was arrested Monday, 10:51 p.m. in the area of North Carson Street and Arrowhead Drive on a misdemeanor failure to appear traffic warrant issued out of Reno Justice Court. Bail: $1,080. The woman was stopped for a broken tail light where officers then learned of the warrant, issued Sept. 24, 2012.

— A 37-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Monday, 8:40 p.m. in the 400 block of Lee Street on a misdemeanor warrant issued April 7, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 10:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of South Carson Street on misdemeanor charges of failure to stop at a stop sign, driving on a suspended driver's license, no proof of insurance and no registration. The man was stopped after running a stop sign and for a cracked windshield. A records check of the man showed his license was suspended in Nevada and Iowa. He also has a recent criminal history for drugs in Nevada and an extensive criminal history in Iowa, the arrest report states. Bail: $1,553.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was booked into jail Monday, 10:09 a.m. on a contempt of court warrant. Bail: $1,000.

— A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 9:16 a.m. in the area of Fairview and Fifth Street on a misdemeanor warrant for contempt of court issued June 30, 2014 out of East Fork Township. Bail: $1,000.

— Two women, ages 20 and 21, were arrested Sunday, 10:57 p.m. at the Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street on misdemeanor charges of petit larceny. The 20-year-old woman allegedly took three baby bottles out of a package and put them in her purse as well as a bottle of infant medication. The 21-year-old allegedly put clothing in her purse and took food items, one in which she concealed and the other she ate from the package.

The 20-year-old woman said she took the bottles and medication for her baby. She said she had $500 in her purse that was for rent. The 21-year-old said she took the clothes and food items. She said she didn't have any money to spend on items from the store. She then said she had about $16 in her purse. Both said they took the items without paying because they didn't have any money. Both were arrested with bail amounts of $352 each.

Those arrested and facing criminal charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
