Sierra Front: Bison Fire in Douglas County grows to 9,300 acres
UPDATE 6PM: With one agency saying one thing, and another reporting something else, there's bound to be confusion and mistakes. Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center now reports the Bison Fire listed as burning 9,300 acres as stated in its 5:40 p.m. media briefing here.
Containment has also been downgraded to 15 percent. Earlier, and posted below, and attached below, was a fire report from the Bureau Land Management, received by Carson Now at 4:33 p.m. stating that the fire remained at 6,300 acres. Containment 30 percent.
We're not sure which agency is accurate or if indeed progress in fighting it have been made on the fire as of early Sunday evening. Many Carson Now readers have suggested the fire appears to have worsened. We urge Sierra Front and the BLM to coordinate better in their efforts to get accurate information to the press.

Firefighters continue to make progress Sunday afternoon on the Bison Fire five miles east of Gardnerville even with the fire being active overnight, reports Mike Whalen, incident commander for the Great Basin Management Type II Team.
The fire remains 30-percent contained with full containment projected for Monday, July 8. More than 600 firefighters are working on the blaze that began Thursday, July 4. The size of the fire remains at 6,300 acres as of Sunday afternoon.
The fire was active on the northeast side Sunday afternoon but crews on the west side have been able to fortify the line that was built the last couple of days. Contingency plans remain in place for positioning of both air and ground resources should the fire move further to the east.
No injuries have been reported and no structures have been lost.
Pine Nut Road remains closed to non-residents at the intersection of Out-R-Way. A voluntary evacuation notice remains in effect for about 20 structures in the area.
