Grocery Outlet in Carson City launches Independence from Hunger food drive
To help members of our community put food on their tables, Grocery Outlet in Carson City is hosting its fourth annual Independence from Hunger food drive.
For the past three years during the month of July, Grocery Outlet stores and their customers have collectively donated more than $500,000, and in 2014, the retail grocer is hoping to raise even more support to help fight hunger.
"We are happy to be a part of this community and able to help in any way we can," said Dave Cox, the Carson City store owner-operator.
Here's what you can do to help: Look for specially-marked food items in the store. These are items that local food bank, Friends in Service Helping, otherwise known as FISH, have requested. Purchase those items and place them in the collection bin at the front of the store.
Tell one of Grocery Outlet's cashiers that you'd like to make a cash donation at the register. Donations will go directly to FISH.
Join the events at the store to support the Independence from Hunger food drive. to help FISH in its efforts to provide food, independence, shelter and health care through its family dining room, three thrift stores, a clinic, and a men's and women's shelter. FISH serves around 1,000 people a month through the efforts of donations and drives, such as the one offered by Grocery Outlet.
