Thunderstorms, gusty winds and heat prompt Red Flag Warning for Tuesday
With expected triple digit heat, low humidity, gusty winds and possible thunderstorms ahead for Tuesday, a Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service.
The area extends from the greater Lake Tahoe area, Carson City, western Nevada Sierra front, from Mineral and Southern Lyon counties and runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms may develop Tuesday afternoon into the evening, bringing some precipitation though the storms will become drier through the afternoon, according to the weather service. Along with the lightning, which may create the potential for fire starts, forecasters expect strong wind gusts of 60 mph or greater.
Meanwhile, temperatures for the region will be well above normal, climbing into the triple digits in some western Nevada valleys by Tuesday. The ridge that will bring the high temperatures is expected to weaken later in the week, resulting in temperatures easing back closer to normal for the holiday weekend.
