Dayton man found guilty of drug, weapons charges after February bust nets stolen guns
A two-day trial led to the conviction Wednesday of a 47-year-old Dayton man on felony drug and weapon charges. Gary Edward Allen stood trial in Third Judicial District Court in Yerington and was found guilty on drug trafficking and four counts of possession of stolen firearms.
The conviction stems from a series of arrests made Feb. 14, 2014 in the hills above Clearview Drive in Carson City where at least 60 stolen guns were recovered. Allen and three others were arrested.
Jeremy Reichenberg and Stephen Rye prosecuted the case for the Lyon County District Attorney. Allen was convicted of possessing four revolvers stolen from a Carson City home.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Tri County Gang Unit handled the investigation in the case. Officers located the stolen guns in Allen’s car and officers found a trafficking quantity of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his house.
Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 18, 2014, at the District Court in Yerington. Allen faces a maximum possible sentence of 26 years in prison.
“Stolen firearms are always a serious issue, and often result in additional crime and problems in our community. When you combine that activity with drugs, the problems increase dramatically,” said Reichenberg.
“This case involved several suspects, multiple locations and several arrests. We appreciate the work of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Tri County Gang Unit, along with the witnesses who came forward to assist in the investigation — without them, Mr. Allen would not have been brought to justice,” he said.
