UPDATE: charges reduced in battery case

UPDATE: The woman said she pleaded not guilty to a charge of battery with a deadly weapon. She said she was found guilty of simple battery, which is a misdemeanor.

A Carson City woman faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after she allegedly smashed a beer bottle over the face of a woman she was fighting with outside a local bar.

The 22-year-old woman was arrested at around 3 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of East Telegraph. According to the arrest report, officers observed two groups of men keeping two women apart outside the tavern, with the suspect putting up a struggle in her attempt to attack the other woman.

Authorities observed the victim had a large laceration on the left side of her head. Officers asked her what happened and the victim said the suspect slapped her in the face because she had sex with the suspect's boyfriend three years earlier, according to the arrest report.

The suspect became verbally abusive as well, calling the woman vulgar, unsavory names, throwing a cup of beer on her, punching her in the back of the head and then smashing her in the face with the beer bottle, according to the arrest report.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries. The suspect was also taken to the hospital because of what she claimed was an injury to the top of her head. She was cleared from the hospital and taken to jail where she was being held on $30,000 bail.

— An unemployed Carson City man faces a felony battery by strangulation charge after he allegedly got drunk with his girlfriend, became angry at her and in a fit of rage began choking her.

Brent Buscay, 40, is being held on $20,000 bond at the Carson City Jail following the arrest at about 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Haven Court in Carson City after receiving a 911 call. Carson City dispatch had a recorded open line and was hearing a hysterical female crying, screaming and telling Buscay: "Get away from me!" and "Don't touch me!"

Dispatch advised that it sounded as though Buscay had taken the phone away from the woman, according to the police report.

Once on the scene, deputies knocked on the front door of the home several times, in which they were met with expletives and told to go away. Buscay then locked the front of the house and ran around to the back. Given the circumstances and not knowing whether the woman was safe, officers announced they were going to kick the door in. Buscay then unlocked the door and officers went inside.

Officers observed the man had scratches on the right side of his face near his nose and was bleeding from the lip and appeared intoxicated. Officer then made contact with the woman, who said she had been with Buscay for about seven years and lived in the home for five years. She told officers Buscay and her had been drinking earlier in the evening and when they returned home, her boyfriend got verbally abusive with her. She said he then threw her to the ground in the living room area when she attempted to get away from him. She said she fell and hit the back of her head when she hit the floor from the push, according to the arrest report.

She said Buscay then straddled her and choked her to the point where she couldn't breath. She grabbed at him to get him to stop, she said. When she broke way, the man then went for her cell phone to prevent her from calling 911, chucking it across the living room where it broke into pieces.

The woman then said she ran to the master bedroom to call for help. As she called, she said she heard her boyfriend coming after her, this time him telling her that he was going to take the woman "out" and then used his hands across the woman's mouth to stifle her speaking. As deputies arrived, Buscay stopped, according to statements made in the arrest report.

The woman had scratches on the right side of her face near her nose and mouth area. She also had scratches and bruising on her neck area, from front right, front middle and front left area, consistent with her story. The woman's injuries were photographed and deputies arrested Buscay for the assault.

He faces a felony charge of strangulation, a $15,000 bail amount and a felony charge of preventing a victim from reporting a crime, a $5,000 bail amount.

— Carson City authorities arrested a transient Sunday morning who now faces felony charges of stealing a vehicle, after he allegedly led deputies on a pursuit through town.
Joseph Kenneth Carter, 26, is being held on $20,000 bail. According to the arrest report, authorities attempted to pull Carter over when the vehicle he was driving, a green 1996 Honda, had a headlamp out.

Carter continued to drive, and a pursuit ensued with Carter going to speeds in excess of 100 mph, blowing stop lights and stop signs, the arrest report stated.

As the vehicle approached Woodside Drive, two subjects jumped out of the vehicle and began running. Officers caught up with Carter running east on Woodside Drive. He was arrested and read his Miranda rights in which he admitted to officers that he had smoked methamphetamine about two hours earlier. He was taken to jail and booked on charges of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, probation violation, eluding a peace officer, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, obstructing, and driving with a bad headlamp.
