Carson City firefighters respond to brush fire near Grandview and Damon
Carson City fire and emergency crews have responded tonight to a brush fire reported near a water tower area between Damon Road and Grandview Drive. Flames and smoke are apparently visible, according to initial reports.
Firefighters are entering the hilly area from both directions, according to police scanner traffic reports. The fire call came in at about 7:47 this evening. As of about 8:20 firefighters are reporting that they are beginning to get a handle on the flames. Breezy conditions continue tonight, which apparently fanned some of the flames early on.
One witness responding by Facebook reported seeing flames from her nearby home.
"There was a man up there in a white shirt, I'm sure a home owner, with a shovel (who) got the flames out before the fire guys got up there. The Fire department is up there now and got it," reports reader Cindi Green.
Traffic control and the staging area is at Edmonds Drive and Damon, according to firefighters on the scene.
A juvenile has apparently admitted to touching off the fire, according to unconfirmed reports through police scanner traffic.
