Heavenly resort at Lake Tahoe opens Friday for summer season

On Friday, June 8, 2012, Heavenly Mountain Resort will begin operating the Heavenly Gondola seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for sightseeing, hiking and dining. The Tamarack Express Chairlift will also operate, accessing miles of hiking trails with the best views of Lake Tahoe.

“While we haven’t yet hit June 21st, summer is in full swing here at Lake Tahoe, and it’s time to get out and enjoy some fun in the sun in one of the most beautiful places on earth,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly’s general manager. “We want people to realize Heavenly is much more than a winter wonderland. Our spectacular natural environment, combined with a multitude of activities and amenities, makes Heavenly an ideal destination in both winter and summer.”

Gondola sightseeing tickets are $34 for adults (19-64), $26 for teens (13-18) and seniors (65+), and $20 for children (5-12). Children four and under ride the Gondola for free. Heavenly will operate seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through Labor Day, after which the resort will operate Fridays-Sundays through September 30.

Mid-Station Observation Deck
A ride on the Heavenly Gondola transports sightseers to the Mid-Station Observation Deck, a 14,000-square-foot platform nestled among massive granite boulders nearly 3,000 feet above the Lake and offering unparalleled views of the Desolation Wilderness, Carson Valley and, of course, the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe.

Adventure Peak
Located at the top of the Gondola, Adventure Peak is the hub for family fun. Adventure Peak offers numerous family-friendly activities, including hiking, a 25-foot climbing wall with an auto belay system, and a 30-foot spider climber and slide for the younger children. Summer tubing is scheduled to be available starting Friday, June 22. Friendly eco-rangers will be stationed around Adventure Peak to answer questions about local wildlife, insects, flowers and the Tahoe environment. Tamarack Lodge will also be open at Adventure Peak and feature an ice cream bar.

Lift and Lunch
The Lift and Lunch program includes a round-trip Gondola ride and a $15 food voucher. The Lift and Lunch ticket is $42 for adults, $34 for teens and seniors, and $28 for children.

Summer Pass
For the best value this summer, the Summer Season Pass provides unlimited access to the Gondola, Tamarack Express and all hiking trails during the summer season. The Summer Season Pass is $59 for adults and $42 for children, teens and senior citizens. Adventure Peak activities not included. Children four and under ride the Gondola for free.
