Carson City's Pioneer High School graduates 56, breaks record for scholarships received
Pioneer High School held a graduation ceremony Tuesday evening at the Carson City Community Center to commemorate the achievements of 56 students who completed their high school coursework.
Between the 56 students, they secured nearly $125,000 in awards and scholarships to assist with continuing education, which is a new record for the high school.
The students worked hard, with a good majority graduating with honors, advanced diplomas, Career and Technical diplomas, college certificates, then Millennium Scholarship and more. One student, Alyxandra Perry, earned her Associates degree from Western Nevada College through the Jump Start Program.
Nine students graduated with the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program, led by Pioneer teacher Chyanne Corley.
"It's an incredible feeling watching my kids graduate," said Corley. "Knowing these kids are onto the next chapter of their lives, and that I was able to be a part of their journey is very rewarding. I'm very much looking forward to what paths they take next."
Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes spoke during the graduation, along with three student speakers, class Valedictorian Emma Molnar, and class Salutatorian Kailee Minnis.
The student speakers shared heartfelt stories of personal triumph, and the ways in which Pioneer helped them succeed.
Stokes told students to “find something to do, find someone to love, and find something to hope for” as his advice for graduates.
Students took the opportunity to decorate their caps, and one student, Steven Keith, used it as a platform to thank his parents, reading “Thanks Mom and Dad.”
Congratulations to the class of 2019 for all your hard work.
Meanwhile, Carson High School graduation is Saturday, June 8. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at the CHS football field.
