Carson City deputies make weekend arrests for domestic battery, drugs and obstructing

A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. A man involved in the altercation was also arrested for two outstanding warrants, a sheriff's deputy report said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called shortly before 7 p.m. to a residence in the 3400 block of Imperial Way to investigate a possible domestic battery in progress. Officers arrived and made contact with a 33-year-old male who had fresh scratch marks on his arms, face and neck.

He told a deputy his girlfriend attacked him and scratched his body. He stated he attempted to push the woman off in self defense. He also informed officers on scene that he had two active warrants for his arrest, the arrest report states.

Deputies spoke with the female suspect, who stated she and the male got into a verbal argument and that she pushed the man first. She was asked why she pushed the man. She stated he told her she was not a good mother and that made her angry, the arrest report states.

The deputy asked the suspect how the man obtained the scratch marks. The woman stated the man pushed her and she attacked him because she felt threatened.The deputy asked the woman how she felt threatened. The woman stated because the man told her she was a bad mom, the report states.

The officer observed a small abrasion on the back of her neck. Based on injuries to the man and the woman's admission that she pushed the man first, it was determined she was the primary aggressor during the altercation. She was arrested. The 33-year-old man was also arrested for two misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence warrants issued Nov. 6, 2018 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $6,000.

In other arrests:
— A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 11:17 a.m. in the area of Robinson and Carson Meadows for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery second offense. According to the arrest report, two brothers got into an altercation. After further investigation, it was determined the 23-year-old was the primary aggressor. He suffered injuries in the altercation as did his brother. He was taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries. He had a preliminary breath test of .292. He was medically cleared and then taken to jail for booking. Bail: $5,137.

— A 23-year-old Carson City man, Robert David Wroth, was arrested Saturday, 6:33 p.m. in the area of Southridge and Northridge for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanors.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was traveling behind a sedan going eastbound on Northridge. The sedan quickly made a right hand turn, turned on its blinker, and turned near Southridge, the report states.

The driver then abruptly parked the vehicle on the west side of the street, exited the vehicle and stood on the curb and began smoking a cigarette. The man then approached the deputy's vehicle to speak. The officer never initiated his overhead lights.

The man approached the deputy's vehicle and began talking. The deputy observed the vehicle had an improper display of a front license plate. The deputy asked why he had stopped abruptly. The man pointed to a house and said he was visiting a friend. The man appeared extremely nervous and his movements jittery, the report states. He was asked why he was nervous.

The man admitted his license was suspended. He provided information and the deputy ran the information through dispatch. While waiting the deputy asked if he could search his vehicle. The man initially said no. The officer asked if there were drugs in the car. The man admitted there was methamphetamine and a meth pipe on the center console.

The suspect then changed his story to his friend's house. The deputy noted that a man exited the house that the suspect pointed to and the man said he did not know the suspect. Dispatch advised his license was suspended.

The man agreed to a search, the pipe with methamphetamine was found and he was arrested for possession, a felony, and the following misdemeanors: possession of paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and improper display of a license plate. Bail: $4,352.

— A 29-year-old Carson City man, Daniel Jacobsen, was arrested Sunday, 3:06 a.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road for suspicion of felony parole and probation violation, and misdemeanor obstructing a police officer.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was called to the area regarding a subject intoxicated, banging on a door, yelling and refusing to leave. Dispatch advised the man was currently on case load with the Nevada Department of Parole and Probation with a "no alcohol" clause.

Deputies met with the reporting party who said they were scared of the man, an ex-boyfriend, and afraid for the safety of her child. The man left the residence. He was later located outside of a nearby apartment.

The deputy instructed the man to speak with him. The man, who is known to run from law enforcement, went inside, then later, exited from the rear of the apartment jumping a fence. This led deputies on a foot pursuit. He was caught and arrested. Bail for obstructing: $412. No bail hold in lieu of a hearing for the felony parole and probation violation.

— A 57-year-old Grants Pass, Ore., man, Robert M. Reiger, was booked Friday into Carson City Jail on a probation and parole retake warrant. No bail.

— A 20-year-old Calif., man was arrested Saturday at Walmart, in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor underage possession of marijuana.

According to the arrest report, a deputy observed a man sitting in a car in the Walmart parking lot rolling what appeared to be a blunt. The deputy did not turn on his overhead lights and parked behind the vehicle.

The officer observed the man rolling marijuana and asked him if he was smoking in public or intended to smoke in public. The man apologized. He was asked how old he was. The man replied 20 and said he had a medical marijuana card. The certificate from a medical facility had expired in 2017. He admitted the certificate had expired and that he did not have a current medical marijuana card on him or inside his vehicle.

The man was under the age of 21, making it illegal for him to possess marijuana. Bail: $869.

— A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday at a Goshutes street residence for misdemeanor violation of an extended protection order. Bail: $3,000.

— A 54-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence. The man was on probation with the Department of Alternative Sentencing with a "no drinking" clause. The man blew a .264 BAC. He was arrested. Bail: $1,000.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: Courtesy of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: On May 3, 2024 at approximately 1430 hours, Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Central Lyon County, Carson City and Storey County Fire personnel to the area of 34 Newman Ln. for a report of motorhome on fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had spread and multiple other abandoned vehicles caught fire as well. No one was hurt or injured during the incident. The incident is currently under investigation, which is being conducted by the Nevada State Fire Marshall’s Division.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m.: Firefighters from Storey are also now responding.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: Multiple vehicles on the property are engulfed in flame.

Around 2:15 p.m. a fire was reported at 34 Newman Lane in Mound House.

Firefighters from Carson City and Lyon County are enroute to the scene.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, a student reported they saw a weapon. The incident was investigated and there was no weapon found. The lockdown has now been lifted and students are leaving the school.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Update 05-03-24 at 1:15 p.m.
One student has reported an alleged weapon sighting. It has not been corroborated, but school officials and the sheriff’s office are investigating out an abundance of caution.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: The following update was provided by the district:

Carson High School was put on lockdown this afternoon around 12:15 p.m. No person was injured. There is an active situation being investigated in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. We will provide more information as it becomes known. The school is secure. Do not go to the school. No entrances will be permitted at time. The district will provide updates every 30 minutes. Expect the next update at 1:15 p.m.

Carson High School is currently on a lockdown as of 12:40 p.m. Friday, but there has been no incident reported according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

This was the first time the school’s programs participated in the conference. A total of 25 students competed in eight events.

Carson City’s former Board of Supervisor and business owner Stan Jones was posthumously awarded Thursday the Historic Preservation Award for his long time work for downtown Carson City.

Each year, a Historic Preservation Award is awarded by the Historic Resources Commission to Carson City residents or organizations who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to historic preservation.

The Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is today, Thursday, May 2 at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City. The memorial brings hundreds to the capitol grounds. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrested three for their alleged involvement in business thefts last month on Topsy Lane south of Carson City.

The national issue of suicide — particularly among veterans — touched many people who attended the Walk for Hope on Wednesday morning at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.
