Sen. Reid Announces nearly $1.4 Million in FAA grant money for Carson City Airport
Nearly $1.4 million in Federal Aviation Administration grant money has been earmarked for the Carson City Airport, said Nevada Sen. Harry Reid Tuesday. It is among 11 grants awarded to 10 rural Silver State airports for airfield improvements.
The grant amount is $1,378,125 and will go to rehabilitate the parking apron and runway at the Carson City Airport. Other nearby airports to receive funding are Silver Springs Airport in Lyon County, $384,375; Yerington Municipal Airport; $450,000 to rehabilitate parking apron, taxiway, and runway and $150,000 awarded to the Fallon Municipal Airport to update its airport Master Plan Study and rehab its runway.
Funding for the grant package came from the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2012, which Senator Reid championed through the Senate.
“A state like ours — with vast amounts of rural area— depends heavily on our rural airports as an economic driver for the region. Aviation safety must always be ensured, and airport infrastructure is vital to the safe operations of any air carrier," said Reid. "As always, I remain committed to Nevada’s general aviation, and to ensure that Nevada’s airports have the resources available to remain safe, and useable for all.”
