No explosives found at Carson City DMV after search; man jailed on unrelated charges
UPDATE: The Nevada Highway Patrol reports no explosives were found inside the DMV in Carson City after a disgruntled man left two packages inside on Tuesday afternoon.
A bomb squad from Douglas County did a sweep of the DMV and the Department of Public Safety building after it was evacuated, the Nevada HIghway Patrol reports. A 65-year-old Silver City man, Charles Leigh Self, was arrested on unrelated charges following the incident. The man was originally reported to be from Silver Springs.
The NHP reports Carson City Fire Department personnel were on scene at the DMV handling a medical call when they observed a man with two packages creating a commotion. The man left the facility leaving the bags behind, said NHP Trooper Barbara Stapleton.
An unknown order emanated from the bags and were taken outside the building. Fire personnel contacted Carson City dispatch with a description of the man and then began an evacuation of the building at around 3:40 p.m.
Self was found at Stewart and Carson streets by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies. A routine wants and warrants check was ran on Mr. Self that showed he had an outstanding warrant out of Reno for failure to maintain proof of insurance and multiple traffic violations. Mr. Self was arrested on his outstanding warrants by the Carson City Sheriff Office and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking on the warrant.
The DMV building and parking lots were evacuated and Douglas Tahoe Bomb Squad were called to determine the contents of the two bags. The bomb squad determined that the packages were not bombs and disposed of the contents of the bags, which were noting more than paper and miscellaneous items.
Mr. Self is a person of interest in this incident pending further investigation.

A 65-year-old Silver City man is in custody after becoming disgruntled with employees at the Carson City DMV office and leaving behind two black packages, authorities said.
Charles Leigh Self was in custody Tuesday afternoon. Self did have a warrant for his arrest on unrelated matters.
A bomb squad out of Douglas County will do a search of the packages left at the DMV at around 3:40 p.m. State employees with the Nevada Highway Patrol and DMV were evacuated and told to go home, said NHP Trooper Barbara Stapleton. Authorities are looking into whether Self was told to leave the Nevada Legislature earlier in the afternoon.
Self was apparently "disgruntled at the DMV, blaming them for his problems," said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. He left two packages at the Nevada DMV office, leaving with a service dog and was found later on Stewart and Carson streets, said Sheriff Furlong.
Furlong said Carson City Fire Department had been on scene for an unrelated matter and contained the situation ordering the evacuation of dozens of employees.
