Kingsbury Grade remains closed while officer shooting is investigated, says Douglas County Sheriff’s Office
UPDATE 11:35 a.m. Minden, Nevada- Update. Officer involved shooting.
The suspect in the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office officer involved shooting, 43 year old Oakland resident, Stefon Demar Jefferson has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer in addition to numerous additional felonies related to this investigation.
The DCSO sergeant underwent surgery for the gunshot wound to his left hand and is in very good spirits. The sergeant is expected to be released from the hospital this afternoon. Additional surgeries performed by a specialist are expected later within the next week.
The Douglas County Sheriff Office wishes to thank the public for the outpouring of support for the men and women of our agency.
A new conference will be scheduled at 2:00 pm at the Douglas County Law Enforcement Center.

UPDATE 9:05. a.m. Carson City dispatch advised Kingsbury is now cleared to be reopened.
UPDATE 8:30AM 4/27/19 by Paula Peterson, South Tahoe Now: An observant officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was on patrol near the Heavenly Village at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday night when he saw a car listed on a Bay Area police "Be On The Lookout" report go through an intersection. The report said the driver was a suspect in two homicides, one in each Oakland and San Francisco.
He followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over with the assistance of another officer, but the driver took off and a pursuit began.
The two SLTPD officers followed the Toyota Corolla over Kingsbury Grade (SR207) as Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was getting into position at the bottom of the hill. They followed until about three-quarters of the way down when DCSO took over according to Jason Cheney of the SLTPD.
Shortly after that, the Corolla crashed about one-quarter mile west of Foothill Road, on Hwy 207. The suspect shot at DCSO deputies, striking a sergeant in the hand. He then surrendered to authorities without incident and was taken into custody.
Arrested was 43-year-old Stefon Jefferson.
The sergeant was transported by Care Flight to Renown Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was going to have surgery on his hand.
No shots were fired at SLTPD.
Cheney said deputies from El Dorado County Sheriff's Office came into South Lake Tahoe from the West Slope to help cover the City during this incident.
Kingsbury Grade was closed overnight and is now in the process of being reopened.

Minden, Nevada - The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, the Nevada Division of Investigation, the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Washoe County Office are currently investigating a vehicle pursuit of a wanted homicide suspect out of Northern California.
The pursuit was initiated by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at approximately 9:45 pm when they located the suspect vehicle driving through their jurisdiction. The suspect was pursued into Douglas County, Nevada at which time Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies assumed control of the enforcement action.
The suspect vehicle continued without regard for public safety at dangerous speeds over Hwy 207 (Kingsbury Grade) into the Carson Valley.
During the pursuit, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Sergeant was subsequently shot, sustaining a non-life threating injury.
The vehicle driven by the suspect crashed approximately one quarter mile West of Foothill Road, on Hwy 207. The lone suspect surrendered to authorities without incident and was taken into custody.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Sergeant was transported to Renown Medical Center where he is awaiting surgery for his injury.
Hwy 207 is currently close to all traffic at Tramway Drive and Foothill Road while this shooting is being investigated.
