Carson City weather: Wind and valley showers ahead, Sierra may see more snow
Low pressure will move inland and bring gusty winds along with some cooling and chances for light valley rain and Sierra snow showers by Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
Southwest winds become gusty Sunday ahead of a storm system for Monday that will bring light mountain snow and valley rain. Winds are expected to gust 35-45 mph both days with gusts to around 75 mph or so along the ridges. A lake wind advisory is in effect Monday for Tahoe and Pyramid lakes.
A second system is forecast to move through the region on Monday bringing another round of rain, mountain snow, and breezy winds. The Sierra, above 7,000 feet, could see another 3-6 inches with up to 10 inches in some areas.
Snow levels are expected to hover around 7,000 feet during the day on Monday and fall to 5,000 to 5,500 feet overnight, according to the weather service. A dusting to around an inch of snow will be possible down to around Lake Tahoe and Mammoth Lakes.
On Tuesday the cold core of the system will move through the region with light rain and snow showers remaining possible, especially in the morning. Showers should clear up by early Tuesday afternoon for most areas with cool breezy winds from the north.
Sunshine and warmer temperatures return for the second half of the week as high pressure moves in.
