Cello Recital April 26 features music, conversation, wine and dessert
The Carson City Symphony Association presents an intimate, elegant evening of Music, Conversation, Wine, and Dessert on Friday, April 26, 7:30 p.m., at a private home in Jacks Valley, south of Carson City. The recital will introduce - or reacquaint - music lovers in our area with critically acclaimed cellist Stephen Framil, who has appeared as concert soloist, chamber musician, and conductor the world over.
The evening will begin with a fascinating account, "The Making of a Cello," by Symphony cellist Becky Crowe. After studying for a year making violins with luthier Paul Schuback in Portland, Ore., she built a double bass and three cellos, including the one she plays in the Carson City Symphony. She is currently working on a smaller cello that she plans to donate to the Symphony's youth program, Strings in the Schools.
Following the talk, Stephen Framil will play will play Bach's Suite No. 1 in G, and Schubert's Sonata in A minor for Cello & Piano ("Arpeggione"), accompanied by pianist Sally Higgins.
General admission is $25; Symphony Assoc. members $20; and children age 12 and under $5. Tickets are limited—get yours early at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall or online at CCSymphony.com.
While in Carson City, Dr. Framil will lead a masterclass for student cellists on Thursday, April 25, at Carson High School, and play Dvorak's Cello Concerto with the Carson City Symphony on Sunday, April 28, at the Carson City Community Center.
