Passenger in Saturday's Carson City motorcycle crash at Roop and Fairview dies
The South Lake Tahoe passenger of a motorcycle that crashed Saturday in Carson City has died, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Audrey G. Rugamas, 21, died of injuries after she was taken off of life support on Wednesday. Rugamas had received severe injuries sustained from the motorcycle crash with a vehicle, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
Audrey's mother, Luisa, works at PUSH Fitness in South Lake Tahoe as a massage therapist. PUSH is gathering donations of any kind to help with the family. The public has been dropping off cash donations and the gym is also hosting a fundraiser on April 12.
The fundraiser will consist of vendor booths and activities with revenues generated being donated to Luisa and the family. Any local businesses or individuals that would like to take part in the fundraiser are asked to call Kim Horn, PUSH Manager at 530-544-9111. She will be taking silent auction items as well.
At 10:45 p.m. Saturday, NHP troopers were dispatched to the motorcycle crash at the intersection of Fairview and Roop streets. Crash investigation details indicate a 2007 maroon and gold/green Suzuki street bike driven by Andrey L. Gallegos, 20, of Sparks, along with passenger Rugamas was traveling southbound on Roop Street approaching the intersection of Fairview where a gray Chevy Silverado pickup was traveling westbound on Fairview.
Both the motorcycle and pickup collided in the intersection ejecting both occupants off the motorcycle. Gallegos and Rugamas were transported by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical center in Reno in critical condition.
The motorcycle was said to have been traveling from South Lake Tahoe to Carson City between 9:40 pm to 10:40 at about the time of the crash.
It is believed to be, but not yet confirmed, it was the same motorcycle that evaded Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies, who reported it traveling at high rates of speed on at least three different times throughout the streets of Carson City. Law officers stood down on the pursuit because the speeds had become too dangerous.
Trooper Chris Kelly of the NHP Major Accident Investigation Team is asking if any businesses or witnesses along Carson Street during the approximate hours of 9:50 pm to 10:00 pm may have captured video or witnessed a motorcycle with two riders wearing dark jackets and dark helmets driving at a high rate of speed.
Kelly is asking the same of any businesses or witnesses along Roop Street during the approximate hours of 10:30 pm to 10:40 pm who may have captured video or are witnesses of the described bike and its riders or anyone in the area of South Lake Tahoe or Robinson Street in Carson City or any witnesses or with additional information are encouraged to contact him at (775) 689-4661 or ckelly@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-140301796.
