Emergency planners prepare for 'cataclysmic flood event'
Emergency planners gathered in Reno on Friday to prepare for an epic flood — an event of scope and scale so vast that participants hope to never see in their lifetime, but which history suggests will some day occur.
The scenario played out at Washoe County’s Regional Emergency Operations Center revolved around a so-called “ARkstorm,” a massive one-two punch of snow and rain that would swamp the Reno-Tahoe area in a flood far worse than big ones experienced in recent history such as in January 1997.
