Winter storm moves into the Carson City region
A winter storm will move into the Carson City, Northern Nevada and Sierra regions today with snow expected to lower along all valley floors by tonight.
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a winter storm watch for Carson City and valley regions throughout Northern Nevada, with gusty winds in front of the storm of between 20 to 30 mph. The watch is expected to turn to a warning by 5 p.m. Lake Tahoe is already under a winter storm warning.
Meanwhile, a high wind warning is in effect for the Washoe Valley. Trucks, buses, trailers, and RVs are prohibited.
The system, which will come in a series of heavy bands, could bring between 2 to 6 inches of snow to Carson City, possibly even up to 8 inches in some areas, according to the weather service and CarsonWeather.com. The storm is expected to last through Saturday morning.
Areas in the Sierra above 7,000 feet could see between 1 to 2 feet of snow out of the system, with up to 14 inches at lake level. Wind gusts could be as high as 90 mph around Sierra ridges.
