Carson City to host 50 employers at Feb. 21 job fair
Carson City area job seekers will have a chance to meet with at least 50 employers Feb. 21 at an employment fair at the community center.
The fair runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. inside the gym area of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street. It is being sponsored by Carson City Health and Human Services, JOIN, Inc. and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.
Preparation for the fair began last year, with employers from manufacturing, health care, technical and service industries committed to interviewing and hiring prospective employers, said Lynn Ellis, WorkForce case manager for Carson City Health and Human Services. There will also be five employment agencies attending.
Statewide unemployment figures continue to improve but Carson City has lagged, climbing to 9.3 percent in December.
"The employers are very excited about the fair and they are looking forward to meeting well prepared job seekers," said Ellis. She urges prospective employees to be “well prepared” for the job fair by dressing as though it is a job interview and to have several resumes available to distribute.
Employers usually ask about employment backgrounds, job skills and work history, said Ellis.
