WNC softball opens home series against No. 16 Salt Lake
Western Nevada College hosts Salt Lake Community College, the national NJCAA runner-up for the past three years, in its home-opening softball series beginning Friday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City.
Doubleheaders against the Bruins are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
The Wildcats (3-10, 0-4) got off to a rough start in SWAC play after dropping four games to ninth-ranked College of Southern Idaho last week.
Last weekend, the Wildcats lost to Odessa, Texas, 3-0; Scottsdale 9-0 and Central Arizona 12-1 before capping their four-game trip to Scottsdale, Ariz., with a 2-1 victory over the host team.
In edging Scottsdale, sophomore pitcher Carlee Beck earned her third win of the season with a complete-game six-hitter.
Sophomore Jenny Rechel went 3 for 3 and knocked in one of the Wildcats’ runs. Andi Lee was 2 for 3 and Meghan Hospodka knocked in WNC’s other run.
This year’s team features standout student athletes from many Northern Nevada high schools, as well as Utah.
Edmonds Sports Complex is located at the south end of Carson City at 1555 Livermore Lane.
