First Judicial District Court appoints Kimberly Okezie to Juvenile Special Master
On December 30, 2014, District Court Judges’ James T. Russell and James E. Wilson, Jr., selected Ms. Kimberly Okezie as the Juvenile Special Master for the Juvenile Court.
The District Court Judges decided to recruit for the position instead of appointing an individual. A five person panel convened and reviewed 23 applications for the position. Many of the applicants were well qualified and possessed years of experience.
The panel selected four applicants for an interview. After the interviews and careful deliberation, the panel agreed that Ms. Kimberly Okezie was the best applicant for the position. After the selection, Judge James T. Russell stated, “Ms. Okezie was one of the best law clerks who have served the court. Her compassion, intelligence and professionalism will serve the families in our community very well. She is an excellent attorney and I have full confidence in her abilities.”
Ms. Kimberly Okezie is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and Wyoming Law School. Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Okezie clerked for the Honorable James T. Russell for the First Judicial District Court. Ms. Okezie was employed as a Deputy District Attorney with the Carson City District Attorney’s Office, where she gained her experience working with juvenile matters, and as a Deputy Attorney General with the Office of the Nevada Attorney General. Ms. Okezie was an Associate Attorney with McMahon Law Offices and formerly worked for Robinson, Belausteui, Sharp and Low in Reno, Nevada and was a former substitute teacher for the Washoe County School District.
As Juvenile Court Special Master, Ms. Okezie will presides over juvenile delinquency cases, cases involving the protection of children under NRS Chapter 432B, and child support cases. As the Discovery Commissioner, Ms. Okezie will administer the Civil Arbitration and Family Mediation Programs.
