Stabbing leads to two treated after early morning Lake Tahoe New Year's party
Three men were treated for injuries with two hospitalized after a stabbing in the early morning hours following the New Year's celebration at Lake Tahoe in Stateline, a Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant reports.
The stabbing happened in the pre-dawn hours and capped a night of very few problems, authorities report. The fight and stabbing happened outside of the Tahoe casino core. The medical conditions of those with knife wounds is unknown, but two were taken to the hospital and one refused treatment, Douglas County Sgt. Jim Halsey reports. Names of the involved parties are withheld pending investigation.
The celebratory crowd seemed no larger than in past years, Halsey reports. Highway 50 was closed to vehicle traffic at about 10 p.m. to allow celebrants to flow into the roadway as they celebrated the coming of the New Year.
Highway 50 was reopened at about 1 a.m. after the crowd peacefully moved off the street and back into the casinos or other areas. Halsey reports that 10 people were arrested in the downtown casino core area of Stateline during the evening. Charges included affray, assault, battery, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, trespassing, minor consuming alcohol and civil protective custody.
One person was arrested outside the casino core area for driving under the influence.
The Minden-Gardnerville area reported a similarly quiet evening; with one person arrested for domestic battery and one person arrested for minor consuming alcohol.
The various law enforcement and support agencies involved in this year’s event worked extremely well together.
Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini extends his gratitude to all agencies who participated, including: Nevada Highway Patrol, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Nevada Department of Prisons, Placer County Sheriff's Office, FBI, Douglas County Communications Center, Douglas County Road Department, Nevada Department of Transportation and Caltrans.
Elsewhere, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports making 14 DUI-related arrests between 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. this morning. Meanwhile, Carson City authorities were also busy overnight, making four DUI arrests and three arrests for domestic violence.
