28th annual Holiday Treat concert
It's a Holiday Treat for all - seasonal and holiday music in many styles! The Carson City Symphony presents the 28th annual Holiday Treat concert on Sunday, December 11, 2011, 4:00 p.m., at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street.
The Symphony will be joined on the program by the Carson Chamber Singers, Carson High Saxophone Quartet, and Victorian Dancers. Pre-concert enter-tainment by the Carson High Saxophone Quartet begins at 3:00 p.m. in the lobby. Collection bins for Food for Thought will be in the lobby. Refreshments and raffle prizes on sale at the concert benefit the Symphony Association's educational and artistic programs.
The Carson City Symphony, conducted by Music Director/Conductor David Bugli, will perform several works, including Christmas at the Movies and Corelli's Christmas Concerto. Norma Conway's Victorian Dancers will appear in Tritsch-Tratsch Polka and Roses de Noel Waltz.
The Carson Chamber Singers, directed by Judy Monson, will sing Deck the Hall, Little Lamb, and And the Angels Sang. They will be joined by the orchestra for Sing a Christmas Song and Mid-winter. The Carson High Saxophone Quartet - Jessica Dodge, soprano/alto; Tony Xie, alto; Carly Schmidlin, tenor; Spencer Bean, baritone; and guest percussionist Brandon Dodge, djembe - will play Strange Humors by John Mackey. This piece presents middle-eastern-style melodies and African-style drum rhythms. Performers and audience will join together for the Holiday Treat tradition, A Christmas Singalong.
The concert is made possible, in part, by grants from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and by private donations.
Treat your whole family: tickets are $15 general admission; $12 for seniors, students, and Symphony Association members; and free for children age 16 and under. Tickets are available in advance at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall, online at CCSymphony.com, by mail, or at the door.
Blood donors may receive a complimentary ticket to the concert. Donate at United Blood Services' Carson City Donor Center, Saturday, December 3, through Saturday, December 10. Call 775-887-9111 for Donor Center hours.
