Carson Loses In A Tiebreaker In Regionals
Earlier Tuesday the Carson Senators took on the Spanish Springs Cougars on the tennis court at Carson High School. The match marked the first round of regionals in the high tennis realm and with Carson at the fourth seed and Spanish Springs at the fifth, it was destined to be incredibly competitive. It in no aspect failed to live up to the nail-biting hype.
Into the first round and it was the usual suspects to get the wins for Carson. Kyle Kunz and Aaron Woodbury took a win in the first round, as well as Taylor Saaram and the doubles team of Arts and Nikko. So, as the story would seem time and time again for the Senators, the score after the first round was 3-3.
Into the second round and once again it was competitive on both sides. Kunz and Woodbury would take their second win of the day. Jake Jones got his first "W" in the match as did the doubles team of Hearn and Sollberger. Taylor Saaram would at last give somebody the edge with his win to allow the Senators to creep ahead after the second round at 7-5.
For round three action, it was once again Kunz and Woodbury who got their expected win to leave the Senators just two wins away from going to the second round of regionals for the first time in the last four seasons. After four Senators fell to defeat, it was all down to the racket of Jake Jones to keep the Senators season alive. After getting down 2-5, Jones strung together an amazing comeback to bring it all the way to 6-5, but of course it just wouldn't be dramatic enough unless it went into a tie breaker. In the tie break Jake Jones dominated a majority of the match up winning 7-4 and kept the Senators hopes alive at least for one more round.
With a 9-9 tie, the final chapter of this match would be a tie break. It was a relatively dominating performance by the Cougars when it really mattered and triumphed over the Senators 5-1 in the tie break. All of Carson's starting line up will advance to individual regionals which begin next Tuesday at Manogue's newly constructed tennis courts. The Cougars will play a dominating Reno High team Thursday at Reno at 3:00.
