More than 780 dogs from around the world will compete in the Bonanza Kennel Club of Carson City’s 24th Annual Dog Shows and Trials starting Friday, September 27, 2013 at Fuji Park in Carson City. Events run through the weekend commencing with specialty dog competitions. Additionally, there will be Obedience, Agility, Best of Breed, Junior Handler, All-Breed and Best of Show competitions. There are 109 Breeds or Varieties represented in this year’s shows and trials. Vendors will be on hand with pet products and food items. The event is Free to spectators.
“With over 100 Breeds being represented from all over the world, the Bonanza Kennel Club All-Breeds Shows has something for everyone. We encourage you to come down to Fuji Park and look at all the different kinds of dogs. You can learn about the various animals and get some great tips from the handlers. Be sure to ask a lot of questions, too. Just look for our Kennel Club Members and Volunteers in the green shirts. We welcome the public to attend but ask that spectators please ask before touching any of the animals and leave your pets at home,” said Bonanza Kennel Club Treasurer, Bob Newman.
The Bonanza Kennel Club was founded in 1985 by a group of local individuals with a mere $150. The organization held its first licensed AKC show on September 30, 1989 and has been instrumental in many of the improvements at Fuji Park. Their contributions have assisted in the purchase of equipment, planting of grass and installation of the watering system at the facility. Additionally, with 80% of participants traveling from California, and many from other states and around the world, the weekend-long events have a positive impact on booked room nights and the local Carson City economy.
Joel Dunn, Executive Director Carson City Visitors Bureau said, “The Bonanza Kennel Club puts on a fantastic event. Travelers come from around the world to showcase their amazing dogs. The event is free to attend and a great opportunity for people to research dog Breeds that complement their lifestyles. Quality programs like this boost the local economy and encourage longer stays in Carson City.”
