Local nonprofit, Carson City Schools to provide students with back to school 'makeover'
On Saturday, 10 children from low-income Carson City families will receive back-to-school makeovers as part of the "Cool School Renewal" event put on by Capital City CIRCLES Initiative.
The event, "Cool School Renewal," in partnership with the Carson City School District, will provide the children with free haircuts, a shopping trip for back-to-school clothing, as well as access to healthcare all to prepare them for the upcoming school year.
After their makeovers, the children who have undergone their "Cool School Renewal" will be revealed to their families and the community, armed with fresh faces for the upcoming school year — empowering them with the tools to help them forge internal self-confidence and a positive place amongst peers, community and beyond.
The participating children’s families are a part of Capital City Circles Initiative). This is a local non-profit, 501(c)3, that works to raise low-income families out of poverty through community partnerships, workshops and training in Carson City.
Members of the community are invited to join Carson City School District Superintendent Richard Stokes, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, CIRCLES Board President Linda Flaherty, members of the community, and the 10 newly made-over children for the big reveal on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church (412 West Musser Street) in front of Division Street.
