A new experience: CHS job fair helps students explore careers outside of school
Dozens of businesses and organizations gathered at Carson High School's Senator Square late last month as part of a summer job fair for students.
Giving juniors and seniors in high school a chance at potential internships and learning experiences outside of school, students gathered during the lunch time program to check out business presentations, brochures, demonstrations and collect business cards.
Advisor and coordinator of the event, Richard Kale described the impact of the program.
“This event is set up to show students the possible careers they can have with their CTE classes, along with the education needed from UNR and WNC and the businesses who hire those folks. That is a terrific opportunity for students. And they showed their interest in the program as well.”
Kale also spoke about the positive aspects of internships.
“Internships at a young age install a connection to many new aspects of life. Paid or not, you can’t put a price on the much-needed experience,” he said.
Graduating Senior Arianna Schmidt spoke about her interest in the CHS job fair.
“The program looked very professional and fun to me. And it’s something I will certainly keep the great opportunity in mind before entering college,” Schmidt said. “Internships are hard to come by, and it’s really cool to see so many businesses and people willing to donate their services and help to so many students.”
Although no official date is established, the CHS job fair will return next school year. To give more students a chance of exploring the wide variety of potential careers.
