Carson City's Pioneer High School senior earns multiple scholarships
Conan O’ Brien observed that, “If you work really hard, and you're kind, amazing things will happen.” He might as well have been describing Pioneer High School senior, Savannah Lavey.
Savannah is indeed a very kind person and a quite a hard-worker. Her efforts and attitude have paid off in the form of the two scholarships she was recently awarded.
Savannah qualified for the Nevada Promise Scholarship, which will provide for up to three years of coverage of registration fees and other mandatory fees at any of the state’s four community colleges.
As a part of the application process, Carson City students must work with mentors and perform 20 hours of community service. Savannah spent time after school and on a weekend preparing and repainting the girl's lounge. The much-needed make over helped to increase student morale.
Savannah also spent time helping at the Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby, an equestrian competition that raises charitable funds for local nonprofit organizations.
In addition to the Nevada Promise Scholarship, Savannah was also awarded the Hometown Hero Scholarship, which is worth 1,000 dollars. Savannah would like to major in education and become and elementary school teacher. The staff and student body at PHS are very proud of Savannah.
