Fritsch Elementary Ends Year with a Splash of Color
Fritsch Elementary School will be ending the school year with a splash of local color! The school has invited local artists into the classroom to share their expertise and creativity with the students. “Art taps into all parts of the brain and allows us to reach students who have talents that otherwise would not be realized,” stated Principal Mary Garey.
With help from an Artist in Residence grant through the Nevada Arts Council and the school’s PTA, for the week of May 5th, four local artists will first instruct each grade level on color theory and artistic techniques, then using different mediums such as clay, oil pastels, and paint, students will create their own interpretations.
Then on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 5:30-7:30 p.m., Fritsch Elementary will host an Art Gallery displaying all the artistic creations of the students alongside the work of their local artists in residence.
By partnering with the Brewery Arts Center, Fritsch Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and local artists, our students will have an opportunity to focus on their own creative expression while broadening their exposure to art in our community,” stated Sarah Billings, both a member of the PTA and a mother of a Fritsch student.
Artists involved in the project include: Dana Childs, Camille Howard, Amanda Palmer and Stefan Reid.
