With "abandon" as its January theme, there was a four-way tie for first place among Carson City area photographers in the monthly Carson City Photo Club competition.

The third annual Holiday with a Hero Golf Tournament will tee off May 18 at the Eagle Valley Golf Course. The 4-person scramble golf tournament raises funds for scholarships for students in need within the community.
Low-lying fog

I take my dog for a walk every morning, right before the sun comes up, and the other day I saw an unusual sight so I went back and got my camera. There was a low-lying fog on the ground all around where I lived. It covered the part of Dayton where the golf course is and the schools. It covered the area where the old section of town is, it was all around me, but it wasn’t where I was standing (near Pioneer Crossing Casino)… and it never did come into my area. I’ve lived here 13 years and I’ve never seen that before.
Yerington Snowy Sunset

January 11, 2024 - 4:30pm Friends of mine (Marcy Rawley and Jim Coyle) own a small ranch down in Yerrington. Marcy's got a great eye for taking photos and took this of the sun going down behind the Pine Nut mountains yesterday, Jan 11 2024.
Note the linear form of the fence, the road and ruts in snow....then there's the last 3/4 of the sun setting over the mountains to the west. Great composition.

Our season starts on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, with a short meeting and continental breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and will have our shotgun at 9:30 a.m. Subsequent rounds are every Tuesday. Anticipation for Saturday's Big Chicken grand opening in Carson City came with a "soft opening" Wednesday bringing a hungry lunch crowd to check out the popular chicken chain restaurant founded by retired NBA basketball great Shaquille O'Neal.
Wind mishap causes plastic storm of tiny styrofoam beads along North Lake Tahoe beaches

A floating dock that became loose during a recent storm released an estimated 100,000 or more plastic styrofoam beads onto the pristine beaches of Ski Beach and Incline Beach at Lake Tahoe's north shore, in what Clean Up The Lake organizers called a "shocking environmental incident."

January 6, 2024 (All day) The first winewalk of 2024 and the weather is exactly what it should be. FIG Insurnace, A+ Documents, and Sierra Payroll are new to the winewalk and can't wait to meet the regulars and the first timers. The winewalk happens the first Saturday of every month and is sponsored by the Downtown Business Association. It is a fun way to learn about our local businesses. Hope to see you next month!

Alright Carson Now commenters, your years of demanding a Carl’s Jr. in our comment section have finally paid off: Carl’s Jr. has announced it will be coming soon to the old Arnulfo’s building on Carson Street across from the mall.
