Latin music workshop and free concert

On Saturday, May 12, Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools will hold a Latin Music Workshop and concert at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. Led by Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch and guest percussionists Liz White, Kevin Conlin, and Gerald Larson from the University of Nevada, Reno, the workshop is open to string players of all ages at no cost. Gold Hill Hotel series features talks on Sinatra's Tahoe gaming license, Nevada film history

The Gold Hill Hotel features two Nevada historical presentations this month, one involving the controversial Cal-Neva Lake Tahoe gaming license associated with Frank Sinatra and the other focusing on Nevada's place in film history.

The Tuesday Night Lecture Series on the Sinatra's gaming license will be held April 15 with the film presentation on April 29. Programs begins with dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. with the lecture at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for dinner and lecture and $5 for the lecture.

Carson City CASA training begins April 16

CASA OF Carson City will begin a training for CASA volunteers Wednesday April 16, 6 to 9pm at the CASA office, 1539 E. Fifth St. in parking lot beyond the Juvenile Court.

CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to serve as guardian ad litem for a case of abused or neglected children in a child welfare court case. Being a CASA volunteer requires patience, caring, research, writing, speaking and follow-through.

WNC instructor to offer April 17 Alzheimer's talk

Western Nevada College history instructor and researcher Lane Simonian will offer a free presentation on Alzheimer’s disease on Thursday, April 17, 7 to 9 p.m. on the Carson City campus, in Bristlecone Building room 332.

Lane Simonian, who teaches European civilization at WNC, will focus his presentation on the role that peroxynitrites or potent neurotoxins have in triggering Alzheimer’s disease.

Carson ATA Martial Arts Car Wash - Donations Benefit Scholarships

Come support our local Martial Arts students as they will be washing cars for donations for One Child ATA Time, a group raising money for scholarships into the martial arts program.

These kids learn Respect, Courtesy, Perseverance, Loyalty, and they want to help others benefit from these skills. They will be accepting donations of $5 and up per car, and all of the proceeds go to the scholarship program.

Lucas Oil adds second off road race at Wild West Motorsports Park

The Wild West Motorsports Park will host two Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series events this summer, showcasing northern Nevada as a premier racing site and giving fans double the action.

The Lucas Oil Series announced that Wild West Motorsports Park will host weekend races May 30-31 in addition to the race planned for Aug. 22-23. This is the third year in a row Wild West Motorsports Park has hosted a Lucas Oil Off Road Race and the first time there has been two races in one season.
