Latin music workshop and free concert

On Saturday, May 12, Carson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools will hold a Latin Music Workshop and concert at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. Led by Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch and guest percussionists Liz White, Kevin Conlin, and Gerald Larson from the University of Nevada, Reno, the workshop is open to string players of all ages at no cost. The Jazz and Beyond Festival, Aug. 1-17 in Carson City, embraces numerous artists and highlights various venues in and around the Capital City and includes such genres as: Bluegrass, Blues, Middle-Eastern music and much more.

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his monthly “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, August 1, 7:30 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to attend.

“There are many issues right now that are provoking strong opinions from residents” Bonkowski said. He added “I’m hearing from lots of people regarding the MAC, the animal shelter, the potential corridor improvements and of course medical marijuana. It’s important that I get input from residents, and also to explain how the process will work.”

Evergreen Gene's is also collecting food donations and clothing donations for the Do Drop In Center that provides food and clothes as well as other assistance to the homeless in our community. Carson City area performers needed for historical living stage productions

Registration has begun for the 2014 Kids Adventure Games, the premier race for children ages six to 14 that features teams of two competing in mountain biking, hiking, zip lines, a Tarzan rope swing, giant Slope-n-Slide, cargo nets, mud pits and more.

The race is scheduled for August 2, 2014 at Mammoth Mountain as part of a new, exciting eight-race series, the Kids Adventure Games, taking place at various locations across the nation. Event details are as follows:

"Jazz & Beyond" runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 17 and features over 50 events, mainly in the downtown Carson City area.

The five "Jazz & Beyond" bands at the Fair on August 2 are Sons of Slide Mountain, RVGS Tantalus, Lynne Colvig Latin Jazz, the Reno Jazz Orchestra with singer Jackie Landrum, and the St. Christopher Project, featuring the music of Tom Waits.

Through InfoSnap, our secure and green online enrollment system, parents are able to verify all student demographic, emergency and medical information for their child prior to the start of the new school year.

Returning Students: An instructional mailer will be sent home to all existing students in August. This mailer will contain instructions on how to access online enrollment to update their student’s information.
