CARSON CITY — New COVID-19 vaccines are now available for Nevadans following recommendations by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and approval by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

NAMI Nevada, the Nevada branch of the National Alliance for Mental Health is hosting benefit walks across Nevada on Oct. 7 in Carson City, Reno, Elko and Las Vegas to broaden awareness during October, Mental Health Awareness Month.

Medicaid coverage has been reinstated for Nevadans who recently had their coverage end because they did not return their renewal documentation, known as a procedural denial, according to the state's Division of Welfare and Supportive Services.

It launched in Carson City in February 2023 by inviting members of the community to a one-hour “Connections” gathering where people share stories, engage in conversation and learn how to build and maintain meaningful relationships that bring more joy to our lives and the lives of others.

Girls on the Run Sierras is bringing their week-long, character-building summer camp to Carson City on Aug. 7.

At Camp GOTR, girls will participate in a week-long, half-day camp with lessons about friendship, kindness and creativity. The camp is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and there is a sliding scale cost.

As Medicare appropriations continue to increase, policymakers have been focused on ideas to reduce costs while preserving access to care for beneficiaries. Expanding site-neutral payment in Medicare has become the most popular and effective solution, with the introduction of several bills and discussion drafts seeking to fix the Medicare billing structure that allows hospitals to charge higher rates than independently-owned practices.

Carson Tahoe Transitional Rehabilitation Center, which specializes in short-term, transitional care that bridges the gap between hospital and home, recently expanded its services to offer outpatient therapy.

With summer in full swing, the farmers market in Dayton is the place to be for local flavor on Thursday afternoons, 3 to 6 p.m.

The market offers a seasonal bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables, local honey and jelly, and special items like chard from Dayton’s Solidarity Garden and garlic, rosemary, radishes and apricots from student school gardens.

During their July 20 special Third Thursday event, the Dayton High School Boosters will be selling pulled pork sandwiches, Dust Devil fries and other snacks and beverages. A free class on quick meal planning begins at 4 p.m.

The Alzheimer's Association of Northern California and Nevada will meet July 26 at 2:30pm at the Carson City Senior Center. This group provides information and support for caregivers of those living with Alzheimer's or any dementia.
