Christmas Eve Santa visit signups now being taken by Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve

Arrangements for a visit from Santa on Christmas Eve can now be made, thanks to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Organization.

For more than 20 years, good cheer and the giving of presents will be the order of the special evening, including plenty of keepsake photo opportunities of Santa and kids for those moments to remember.

Carson City motel manager faces additional charge of felony strangulation in Friday attack

An assistant motel manager arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of battery and intimidation now faces a felony charge of domestic battery with strangulation.

Carson City Fire Chief: Levi Gulch Road home sees significant damage in Saturday morning blaze

UPDATE: 10:15AM: A fire Saturday morning at a Levi Gulch home has been extinguished, according to Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi. No injuries were reported. The owners were home at the time of the fire.

About 40 percent of the home was damaged. The size of the home is estimated to be between 3,000 to 3,500-square foot. Another 20 to 30 percent of the home received smoke damage.

Carson City road report for Dec. 2-8; traffic re-routed during Festival of Lights tree lighting

Here is the Carson City road maintenance and construction report for the week of Dec. 2-8: On Friday, Dec. 6, Carson Street will be closed between Fifth Street and Robinson Street from 4:30 p.m., to approximately 8 p.m. for the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights in downtown Carson City. Detours will be signed.

Northern Nevada man dies in pedestrian accident after being struck by semi on Interstate 80

A 26-year-old Wadsworth man died Thursday night in a pedestrian accident after being hit by a tractor-trailer while attempting to cross Interstate 80 two miles west of Fernley in Storey County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Jason D. Gonzalez died after he was struck while being on the right shoulder of the freeway, attempting to cross the eastbound lanes directly in front of the tractor trailer driven by a 57-year-old El Grove, Calif. man, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.
